Beersheba means "Well of Seven." Be'er Sheva. It comes from Gen 21 where Abraham gave Abimelech seven lambs to confirm that Abraham indeed dug the well.

confused by this ,, it keeps referring to"where the israelites wandered for 40 years .. if so .. they had no need to cross the jordan into the promised land ??

on NO - do not release the map in that link .it is utterly in Error -as paul says in the new testament very clearly .. the mountain of the lord is in arabia ( the land of midian) -they crossed the red sea ,not a swamp where pharaoh could easily just go around it . Do the math please do not release that old erroneous map -it is so wrong .

Bill Schlegel discrediting based on opinion doesnt hold much weight . how about in study you" Go" to the site in arabia and to the mountain top ,..then compare it to any of the mountain tops on the sinai peninsula , -then get back to me after you have done that .

@@EliJah-bo9ww - Your point of confusion is between a physical "need" and a spiritual need. Crossing the River Jordan (God's plan B) provided the Hebrew people with their grand entrance that would have been theatrical if movie cameras were present. However, I agree with you in that the Nuweiba beach crossing point theory ticks more boxes in the Biblical narrative than the traditional theory. The Red Sea, having performed its task of defeating the Egyptians, was left behind, and the people were free to roam the whole region immediately to the north because it was devoid of major water barriers.
