Be kind and polite. Always give enough space for cars and slowbies. Never make anyone scared. Share a city responsibly. Better person= better skater. Remember when you are out there ripping through city, you are the skating ambassador! So make skaters friends not enemies.

My own tips as some one who skates for almost 8 years now; 1- if u really into inline skating, buy good pair of skates, its better, funner, and lasts longer. 2- be adventurous, dont be affaid to challangs your self. 3- stay low, like he said its so fucking important. 4- dont tighten your skates too much, it will hurt, u wont have flexibility. 5- invite a friend, try to get with your local skating group if you have one, it will motivate you, u will probably see better skaters and this will motivate you. 6- while challanging your self is good, dont force it too much, be careful. 7- try to use your skates to where you wanna go, long distances will omfg make u so much better and it will improve your body, i got a six pack only skating :) Good luck ladies and gents, and roll out.

Any time you pitch your head forward you're sacrificing good position and balance. I get more out of recording my skating and watching the playback. The top down look at your skates doesnt show you what your arms, body, and legs are doing.

@@vbbcl217 I think it depends. When we're new, yeah, checking the feet to work on getting used to the feel of different edges might make sense - or to correct an error; but we still gotta pay attention to our environment. I think it gets easier not to look down as we start to get a feel for things - y'know, get to the point that we have a better understanding of what to expect.

Personally, I'd suggest that the first 3 things you learn and keep practising are; travelling forwards, backwards and on one leg (for each leg). These 3 basic skills saved me from falling countless times when learning new tricks. It's like swimming; once you learn it, you will always automatically swim the next time you fall into water. If I'm travelling too fast for my grip and wheel setup and I lose control around the corner, I always catch myself on my confident foot and slow down. Also, tip 14; Don't be afraid to reconfigure and experiment with your setup. You don't have to roll on the same wheels, switch them out for different hardnesses, try different size setups (half rocker, full rocker, anti rocker etc.) to find what best suits your environment and style of skating. It took me a good month to sort out every detail on my Sebas, but now I know exactly what I like and what works best for me. And tip 15: Rotate your wheels (look it up if you're unsure what this is).

I am 34 now and a beginner, again, as I've just re-discovered inline skating. At tip number 12 (listening to music while skating) my initial thought was: No, not for me! I started meditating years ago and since then stopped listening to music while doing sports, because I simply enjoy the silence, rather being able to listen to the environment, and I prefer to focus on just that what I do, no multitasking. But (!) after I saw you dancing with your rollerblades to the music I thought: Oh yeah, I can't wait to do that! I do love dancing, sometimes I skipped going for a run and was just dancing at my home to my favourite music as a kind of workout. Until now I never thought of combining both, dancing with my rollerblades, and I am laughing about that, because it makes sooo sense! Back in my teens when I was skating and later stopped it, I hadn't yet discovered dancing then. I want to express my gratitude to you, for your inspirational videos and the effort you put into them!

A tip from a figure ice skater! •go in circles with the outside foot doing a barrel/lemon until you feel pretty comfortable •next, do the same thing, but now in a sequence and a foot up. How? Let me explain. Do two-three barrels with the outside foot -> then still going in a circle, go parralel with Your feet and stand kn the outside foot bringing the inside foot up to your ankle or knee. Then bring it down and do two or three barrels with the outside foot again, repeatin the process until you feel comfortable •bent knees. Bending knees is important! Now do the same sequence above, but slowly crossing over the outside foot. How? Okay. After barrels and bringing Your foot up, bent the inside leg and slowly cross over the outside leg. If Your inside leg isn’t bent, you won’t be able to cross it over. You don’t have to necessarily step over at first, just glide it slowly forward and bring it closer to the inside foot, then in front of it, it’s like going a bit diagnally. Do that until you learn cross overs. It’s simple as that! Do it on both sides. Also! ARMS!! For example, when you do backward crossovers to the left, you have to have your right arm in front of you and the left one in the back. Don’t make a straight line, curve it to the inside. Right arm a bit more to the left (inside the circle) and tge left one also more into the circle. Lean a bit forward, don’t be stiff. Your arms will hurt, so do breaks and hydrate. You should check out some figure ice skating tutorials on backward crossovers as they are the same thing on inlines!

Great vid Bill! I'd love some advice from the community if anyone is willing! :-) I started skating about 6 months ago in Barcelona and I am so in love with it! (Amazing city for it). These videos have really helped me learn quickly so big thanks to Bill! When I move back to London I intend to start playing hockey so I'm now thinking about upgrading my skates - I can spend maybe $300-ish. I would also like to continue street skating too tho, because it's fookin awesome! Does anyone have any advice about freestyle skates for hocky vs hocky skates on the street? I can only afford one pair for now. Also, any brand / model advice would be appreciated! Thanks guys! And keep up the good work Bill!

Just go to a good skate shop and find the skates that fit you well and you feel comfortable and confident in. Just make sure it has the option to switch frames, that way you can setup you skates for almost any situation without having to replace them completely.

The Blade Sage has spoken. :) . Later in life, publish an "Inline Skating for Dummies" manual. In any case, I use both sets of arm swings. Forward to back if I wanna blaze it (sprint). The side to side (actually it's side in front to diagonal in back) version feels stabler and I apply it when maintaining speed. That's how I roll, son.

Thanks for this. I just ordered my first pair of blades, and am looking for a pre-education before I hit the street. I'm excited! Cheers! "LiL'JpD."

Love this video. So helpful! Thanks for sharing, really. I have a quick question. I love how you skate along with Greg Mirzoyan and Danny Aldrige and I´ve been skating for a couple of months so I am very new at this but I am starting to enjoy so much the city and do jumps and I am not afraid to try and fall. But the fakie is the one I have such a hard time. Also any advise for my skates to make them more confortable? I have the Rollerblade Twister Edge 110FWD and they are painful on the ankles. Any thought ?
