I have a small tub of silica packs that measure 3 x 4 and 3 x 6 that I’ve collected from computer equipment boxes. I was saving them to use in my crafts to make fabric phone stands and I was going to use them like beads to put in the bottom of the stand for weight and squish ability and put the poly stuffing in the top part of the phone stand. Any thoughts of why this may not be a good idea to open the packs and use them like stuffing beads? I searched a little to try to find out if it’s OK to use the beads outside of the packaging they come in, but didn’t really find what I was looking for.

I keep a couple silica packs in my kitchen drawer with my can opener and other utensils that tend to rust because it's difficult to dry them thoroughly. It's saved me from replacing my can opener! I just thought of an idea: I bought a large bag of baking soda and pour some into a smaller container when needed. It’s gone all clumpy-which makes pouring awkward. I can put a few packs in a net bag and put it in the soda bag. That should break up the clumps and make it easier to pour when necessary

I always saved the silica packages that came in my handbags, backpacks, and wallets. I take medication that comes with silica and I've been saving those too. I need to put them all in a zip lock bag. It's so impressive how many ways you can use silica and the food grade versus none food grade. Thank you for sharing this informative video!!

Thanks for this post. I've always saved them, but I don't have many, and you've mentioned a lot of good tips I hadn't heard of before. A friend of mine has an old car, the defroster runs hit or miss. I gave him a couple of socks filled with rice and tied in a knot to throw on the dash. Keeps the condensation down somewhat, but if a crowd gets in while the car is still cold and the moisture builds up fast you can use the socks to wipe down the windshield.

Hi Pam. I am ordering food grade silica gel packs from Amazon because of you. I plan on using them for my swiss cheese that tends to gain moisture and eventually grow mold. I would store it in a ziploc bag and put paper towels in with it. But, still had some wetness, and eventual mold. I'm excited to try this out. Thank you so much for the idea! ❤

You could put them in sweaty sneakers once you have just come in from playing sports or for shoes that you were caught in the rain with. You cold also put them in the umbrella stand at the bottom even though you have let your umbrella dry out before you place it in the stand. The same goes for a sweaty or rained on hat.

They can be refreshed by putting them in the dehydrator or oven on low temperature. Also, food grade and regular are the same, it's only depends on how they have been used previously. If they are brand new and never used before they can be used any where.
