I keep a couple silica packs in my kitchen drawer with my can opener and other utensils that tend to rust because it's difficult to dry them thoroughly. It's saved me from replacing my can opener! I keep all the silica packs that come in my medicine bottles and use them in all kinds of ways. Thank you for your tips, and I'm enjoying this channel!

They can be refreshed by putting them in the dehydrator or oven on low temperature. Also, food grade and regular are the same, it's only depends on how they have been used previously. If they are brand new and never used before they can be used any where.

Always felt bad when I threw them out because I thought they had to be good for something - other than the package they came in. Now, I know. Thanks Pam!

I just thought of an idea: I bought a large bag of baking soda and pour some into a smaller container when needed. It’s gone all clumpy-which makes pouring awkward. I can put a few packs in a net bag and put it in the soda bag. That should break up the clumps and make it easier to pour when necessary

You could put them in sweaty sneakers once you have just come in from playing sports or for shoes that you were caught in the rain with. You cold also put them in the umbrella stand at the bottom even though you have let your umbrella dry out before you place it in the stand. The same goes for a sweaty or rained on hat.

Thanks for this post. I've always saved them, but I don't have many, and you've mentioned a lot of good tips I hadn't heard of before. A friend of mine has an old car, the defroster runs hit or miss. I gave him a couple of socks filled with rice and tied in a knot to throw on the dash. Keeps the condensation down somewhat, but if a crowd gets in while the car is still cold and the moisture builds up fast you can use the socks to wipe down the windshield.

Hi Pam. I am ordering food grade silica gel packs from Amazon because of you. I plan on using them for my swiss cheese that tends to gain moisture and eventually grow mold. Don’t let the beads get loose on a wooden floor! Been there, one time you don’t want it to work. So if you buy loose silica beads be, know you might have a wet floor later if they end up on the floor. Razor tip, i need that one as i shave my neck area in between hair cuts. The razor can rust long before i want it to, even if i spray alcohol on it.
