Ep. 345
Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and Bjørn Lomborg go through each of the “doable dozen,” a series of issues that cost relatively little to solve, and yet doing so would yield exponential returns for developing countries and their impoverished citizens.
Bjørn Lomborg is a Danish author, having written numerous books on climate change such as “False Alarm,” “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” and “How to Spend $75 Billion to Make the World a Better Place.” He is the president of the think tank Copenhagen Consensus Center which focuses on doing the most good for the most people, with increasingly limited budgets. Bjørn's newest book, "Best Things First," is now published and can be found using the link below!

@@arvidsfar1580 then you need to relisten to the podcast. In comparison to the changes the the leftist elites want made, the 12 things we can do right now, for very little cost, are far more achievable than the 100+ large scale expenditures that others are promoting. I will ask you this: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Not all of it at once. We do not have a crisis in resources or options. It a problem about who gets to decide which things to do, and who gets to suffer while those things get implemented. The elites have no problem avoiding the hardships they want imposed on others. Case in point: California has an issue with electric power production and delivery. This results in major sections of their state shutting down the electric system. These are self inflicted issues. Rather than spending the money to fix these issues, the state imposes orders to not charge your mandated electric vehicle, to not use your heat or air conditioning system, etc. The elites know that this will happen. They buy and have installed a electric generator that runs on fossil fuels, to power their home during the blackouts. They can afford to pay for such things. Those in the lower and middle classes can not afford to do so, therefore they suffer the most during these times. Its not a big financial loss for a rich person to lose a freezer full of food. However, to a poorer family, it may represent a very large portion of their yearly income. So this insistent demand by globalists and elites to "combat climate change" is nothing more than a creation of the narcissistic, Machiavellian, totalitarian, leftist elites. Which if you look at their proportion to the earths population amounts to perhaps, 1 or 2% of the entire worlds population. I don't think they should have the final say on anything when it come to your personal choices.

There's a book called "A Fine Balance" which is fiction based on facts about India. It was written by someone who grew up there if I remember right. When squatters got together and began planting things where they were squatting as soon as they weren't quite starving the authorities came along and trashed their little farm. It's not that people do not want to grow food, they are not allowed to. These people weren't concerned with ownership, they wanted to feed their kids and not starve. The suggestion that making one person own the land being squatted on would make the land more productive might be true, or it (more likely, imo) means that the squatters will be kicked off and someone else, a gangster or someone with a little money, will just take over the area because they have a better chance of establishing ownership in court. What will stop that from happening? What about all the Americans who can't have a little garden because they are forced to rent and it's becoming more and more slumlords, absentee landlords, and rich people letting management companies run their complexes while letting them run down because they skimp on the investments that are sometimes just for money laundering, anyway. Americans who rent are nearly as insecure as people in third world countries, but why own when interest rates can go up so high your house can be snatched from you even after you pay for decades. Not to mention that they can be outright stolen as happened in the first ten years of this century. Corruption needs to be addressed. How will any of these things work if it isn't?

Really interesting points and one I've been thinking a lot about with the farmers protest, and land being continuously put into the hands of big corporations (the same goes for houses being bought up by corps like Black Rock etc plus rising prices leading to less people being able to afford homes). I believe food sovereignty is a big piece of the puzzle that should be addressed and instated as a human right - it's such a key way to connecting with the earth, our communities and our bodies. However it's a threat to the established food systems - which will do anything to keep us fully dependent and happy to sell our land. Sure - it's hard or impossible to be fully self-sufficient in America today, but its a worthy battle to vote for community gardens and personal power of growing food.

@@jerrygreene1493 Is English not your first language, because you're kind of all over the place with your statements lol. Are you referring to Lomborg or Peterson? It sounds like you are talking about Peterson, and I'm not sure why because it is Lomborg that is offering the solutions here. Yes it is Lomborgs theory that making the developing world as rich as possible as fast as possible would probably be the most effective way to address climate change while avoiding the consequences of the more idiotic and overly- ambitious policies that are being proposed. He explains this well in his book. So I don't agree that any of those things are wrong. I also wouldnt call Jordan a Putin apologist either, he just acknowledges that the West/NATO is as much to blame for the war, and if you do your research you will find that he is not wrong on that.
@stephenhughes5156
@stephenhughes5156 9 ай бұрын
@@jerrygreene1493 You're wrong. Poor people don't care about the environment because they are just trying to survive. Its only once your basic necessities are taken care of that it becomes an issue worth dealing with. Poor people typically burn wood or dung which is a way dirtier fuel source. After that comes coal. Then oil. Then natural gas. Then renewables/nuclear. Essentially the less polluting it is, then less cheap it is. See how that works. Countries like China pollute far more per capita than places like North America and Europe. Even if a country getting richer makes them pollute more to begin with, again, they will tend to care more about things like climate change in the long- run. If you read the book it will explain it way better than I can. In any case, I'm pretty sure Bjorn is a lot more educated on the topic that you are, so many have a bit of humility because you might learn something. Saying 'if I was Putin' doesn't mean he agrees with him. It's called putting yourself in someone's shoes. And he is absolutely right about that. Btw try reading 'How the West Brought the War to Ukraine'. Its a very short book, it seems like you haven't even considered that there might be another side to the story. Do you REALLY think Putin invaded for 'imperial' reasons? Come on bro. As for overpopulation. Well I'm not even gunna start on the immorality and hypocrisy of suggesting there's too many people on the planet. But people have been saying that for a long time. They said that if we reached 4 billion everyone would starve. Didn't happen. Just like all the False Apocalyptic climate change predictions. There's also the famous between Simon and Ehrlich where one bet the other that we would run out of oil (and other major resources). That's because they don't take into account technological innovation like being able to access more resources, being able to grow more food per acre etc. And having more people on the planet means more geniuses that can innovate. Besides, the population will supposedly peak at 10 billion. As nations become prosperous, the birthrate tends to decrease (for a number of reasons). It is certainly taking place in the developed world, and it is a trend that will take place when developing countries become developed (if anti- humanists like you will let them get there). Supposedly (as Musk says) our problem will eventually be NOT enough people. Specifically, as a recent documentary called Birthgap explores, not enough YOUNG people to take care of an aging population. As for the fish, I don't know much about it tbh. But it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you can overfish to the point that the fish can't reproduce at a high enough rate to keep up with it. And I suppose there is a host of knock on effects that come with draining the ocen of life. Pick 1 that is a solution? Again, they are all solutions. Not to climate change. But that's the thing, rather than wasting money inefficiently due to the False idea that we are facing an imminent apocalypse, we could be using that money to ACTUALLY do good in the world. Of course, you don't care about these problems because they don't affect YOU (where as climate change supposedly will).

Jordan, you didnt have to make the intro that emotionally charged, i was in tears 5 seconds after clicking on the video. I know you have been saying this for some time on this level, but as someone who never felt the need for a father figure to invigorate me, you really catch me off-guard at times. The internet has given me a grandfather in milton friedman, whose endearing, undaunting and calm attitude to life gave me courage and the the zeal to emulate that level of rigorous intellectual honesty, a suave father in william f buckley whose composure and willingness to engage with other people all the while maintaining unparalled civility and cheekiness, except that one time with gore vidal, and boy did he learn a lesson there, but i digress, gave me the opportunity to actually fear someone intellectually, because that guy is on another level. i have a feeling both of these individuals, may have influenced you a lot too, so thank you for continuing their legacy and giving the young ones hope

About the "green revolution" : "Few people at the time considered the profound social and ecological changes that the revolution heralded among peasant farmers. The long-term cost of depending on Borlaug's new varieties was reduced soil fertility, reduced genetic diversity, soil erosion and increased vulnerability to pests. Not only did Borlaug's 'high-yielding' seeds demand expensive fertilisers, they also needed more water. Both were in short supply, and the revolution in plant breeding was said to have led to rural impoverishment, increased debt, social inequality and the displacement of vast numbers of peasant farmers," Vandana Shiva, India

I would humbly suggest Bjorn, that you please have your team add here the list of the best (and least corrupt) charities that are involved in executing the solutions for these, to facilitate the listeners' ability to donate to a charity that purchases and distributes malarial mosquito nets. Or set up one charity to execute on all the solutions, and people can contribute and earmark their donations. Just a suggestion!

And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish? In this case as applied to learning, the parts of the pattern are relabeled... order = what you understand. chaos = what you don't. proximal = one foot in each. development = order derived from chaos. using your current understanding to step into your unknown so that you may understand it.
