To the people complaining about my comment that the kid's playing lacked feeling, and that this was a "shred contest," you are missing my point. First, I will repeat that he's better than I was at that age, so kudos to him. My main point was that it lacked "feeling." Even the best shredders take a moment to let it breathe and give the strings a good bend and shake. Look at Ynwgie! When he stops and applies his glorious vibrato it's amazing. If this kid works on that aspect of his playing, it will take him to a new level. I've been playing guitar since 1983 when I was this kid's age, and I love listening to shredding guitar. Most people from my generation would agree with my comment 100%. As people mature as players they get it, and I'd be willing to bet there are young players that agree too. I'm not saying he should just play blues licks as that would defeat the purpose of a shredding contest - I'm just saying to give it some feel. :)

He made me play Stairway to Heaven in its entirety to prove I was worthy of a $150 guitar. And I love him for it because now I'm 34 and have a quality taste in music, I own several vintage, and custom shop guitars, and my prized possession is a 1964 Peavey with 2 6L6 tubes and a spring reverb. Those kids need slapped. They SUCK , 12 years old or not, and yes I would ve destroyed all 3 of them at 12, and also Player #1 was the best of the 3. Just because you're a kid doesn't mean you should win, you should stay in a child's place. Teach the kid he's not ready to swim out here with all these sharks

I don't understand why people give the kid so much hate. He's 12 years old! It's insane what he managed to do. He wasn't better than the first guitarist, but I think due to him being so young and it really seemed he had a genuine interest by playing on stage and such, people saw potential. If you look in the video, the second guitarist was actually given a "second place prize" most likely so he wouldn't go home empty handed when he actually won. I think this was a very sweet way to validate the kid by saying "You can compete against grown ups and win" as well as give him good instruments to train with.

The first guy should have truly won... after you could see they made some adjustments to that crappy pedal/amp they were playing through, and he switched to the bridge pickup, he opened up and it sounded much better.

Lol I think people look at tremolo picking as something that shows guitar mastery but it is actually not that difficult to do. Being able to cleanly string skip and sweep pick is something commendable though, really shows your timing and picking accuracy.
