Another tip for you. The numbers on the bottom of the seats are for the lumbar support. There is an inflatable bladder in the seat that expands depending on the setting. Turn them all to zero before troubleshooting your door lock pump. Over the years, they often leak and the pump will keep running until it blows the fuse. Do this enough times and the motor burns up.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
Ahhh!!! I have codes for the rear seat bladders. The pump appears to be toast as well. The fuse, however is still good.

While looking at a used SL 600 for sale, the owner handed me a printout of the service history that he had printed out at the local Mercedes Benz dealership. It had the same information that your carfax report has but with far more detail and, more importantly, the prices paid for the parts and labor for each repair. There were 18 pages with tens of thousands of dollars worth of maintenance and repairs on this beautiful convertible. That report put the whole future cost of ownership in to perspective for me. Stop by your local dealership with your Vin or registration and have them print one out for you. It could provide more useful information for your car and meeting the service advisor might benefit you in the future. It's a $2,000 car. Have fun with it.

The yellow light is for city detection, the green light is for highway detection. If you dont wanna hear the beeps then center the big knob to turn it off. The oval screen to the left of the speedo cluster is the factory parking sensor warning lights. Love that this era MB have bottomed out. Love the vids!

If the car's been sitting for awhile check the fuses. Check the power steering n suspension hydraulic tank if there's any leaks you might have to replace hoses oil and filter and what goes bad also might be abc hydraulic valve block. But before you waste money just look up hoses and your oil you might just need to add oil on the suspension hydraulic tank..

some tips from a "pro" lol, first of all the buttons on the steering wheel and the glove box release and and the bezel of the headlight switch to clean it up dont use anything except medical alcohol swabs it removes the varnish without damaging the paint... the ABC system check the codes maybe the oil level of the ABC system is low. if not there will be a code for system pressure is low. which will require a new pump go for a used one. then the PSE system which controls the central lock and headrest and the seat balloons (the switch with numbers you mentioned) first go to the rear fuse box located behind the light under the rear right seat "vanity light" i believe its the 7.5 or a 5 amp fuse. if good open the trunk on the left side behind the left liner you will find the PSE pump it will be above the CD changer hopefully the last part number is not a 11 or 12 they are expensive P.S you car has SOFT-CLOSE doors which are also controlled by the PSE pump. and for the driver seat trip they are still in production for the 3 psc missing they will cost around $100 new if you want the part numbers i will get then to you honestly i only remember the beginning #220 880 lol. and lastly the oil services reset is simple ignition on one the odo screen push the arrow on the the steering wheel 1 time up then push the R button of the Instrument cluster 5 seconds. if you can get me the codes it would get you to the right direction... gladly

forgot to mention the SRS light what is the code circuit LOW or High if low check the fuse on the side of the dash and check the wiring to the airbag but from experience im betting its high which means the side airbag is defective there are 3 ways to fix this i will only mention 1 here which is to replace the airbag keep in mind its riveted to the door its easy to get to its a 10 min job and its just cheaper to buy a used door and remove the airbags most people sell it with the door and no one cares to remove it. it does not need any kind of programming too.

The small wheel with numbers on it is for the orthopedic seat function, the higher you have it set, the firmer the seat is, a couple of them work on my s600 but I don't use them anyway lol. As far as the ABC system is, you should be able to get a code that will tell you what it needs. It may just be a faulty switch.
@georgosvardaoulis25576 жыл бұрын
The door locks and trunk release are probably related to the door lock vacuum pump in the trunk that sends air through the door and trunk to release. Your doors should suck themselves close when not shut all the way and If it doesn't do that also, I would say its that door module. Check out Madd Max videos on his S65 AMG where he replaced that.
@LiTenUpADP6 жыл бұрын
Good luck with the ABC system. They are sublime when they work and the bane of your existence when they don't. If none of the struts are leaking, then you probably have a couple of bad accumulators. They look like spheres. I think there are a total of 5, one for each strut and another for the pump - although the pump may have a pulsation dampener that is a totally different animal from the accumulators. There are also several valve blocks with small internal orifices that can get blocked if the ABC system was not flushed and maintained regularly. It is best to have the ABC system serviced by an independent MB mechanic because you can really screw it up if you don't know what you are doing. Rotating the steering wheel back and forth may reset the clockspring, but that error (ABS) is likely to come back. If the struts are leaking and you need to replace the accumulators and service the valve blocks it is probably better to sell the car to someone who really wants to have an S600 as this service can easily be $2k-$3k even if the mechanic is your best friend. If the ABC side of the tandem pump is bad then add another $1500.
@StealthyWolfDaddyWerewolf6 жыл бұрын
That big bottle is the ABC fluid and the little one is the power steering. Probably be a good idea to get a sample of the big bottle fluid on a paper towel. That way you can see if the fluid is dark or dirty with metal shavings. If the ABC side goes too low or empty it can grind the snout or other parts of the pump by running dry. Top off the fluid with the right stuff. There should be a dip stick. This video shows how to fill it and the dipstick reading procedure kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpWaY2OIoJh6p5I Once you top it off drive it and try to see if it operates. Could be the low level sensor telling the computer don't move a muscle to protect the pump. If the fluid is contaminated, you might need to replace the ABC pump. If your diagnostic tool has pids there should be a pressure reading for the ABC system. Here is a video of a disected ABC pump that ran too long with no fluid. Also if you need trunk shocks discountbodyparts.com might have them. That is where I bought the hood and trunk struts for my buddy's slk. Here is the link for the disected ABC pump video someone made kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHvCeGyXadpsbLs you might be lucky and it's just too low on fluid to operate. But at 100+k for miles it might be going out like a water pump too. Another thing to do is to listen to the pump while running to get a idea if it sounds ok or noisy. I would also listen to it while turning the wheel to see if it causes any weird noises. But the ABC light off and on is probably low fluid.

This is a dead ringer for an '03 S600 i worked on here in PA for a limo service. It left a bad taste in my mouth.... had every single problem this one has, past and present, including "rebuilt" ignition coils the owner wanted to use and almost made me pull all my hair out. It is NOT a car I would buy, however, you made a win-win on the amount of work that was done on this car before you bought it, which would include the huge win on the engine oil cooler job. These coolers leak like you wouldn't believe when they bust, and because of the area where it leaks, you usually have to dismount the transmission and at least pull it back to clean out the bellhousing area of lots of leaked and pooled oil. This car is extremely costly to repair. The ignition coil packs alone ran around $3000 a side at the time when I was working on this model car. So to just lightly read over some of these bullet points in the CarFax had me laughing. The weight of the costs of those repairs simply isn't reflected in the nonchalant description of said repairs!! About the only system i did NOT have to repair was the active body control.... so unfortunately I cannot be of much help there.... but with all that said, I do wish you the best of luck with this car!! The W220 S600 was a gorgeous car then, and it remains a gorgeous car today.

@mohibchamkani6 жыл бұрын
I had this exact problem. The Active Body Control (ABC) "Visit Workshop" alert on your dash could mean a number of things as the ABC controls a lot i.e., suspension, lowering and raising car, and driveability. It could also be a leak in your power steering. Check under your car, after it has sit for awhile, and see if it has any leaks. If not then it is most likely your ABC compressor or your struts or suspension in general. The ABC comprsessor runs the air through your suspension which lowers and raises your car, it also keeps your car in a steady line when driving i.e., the ABC button that you push to tighten up your steering and your suspension, or the button to raise and lower your Mercedes by 3" or 6". Bring it in to Mercedes and make sure that it is either under warranty or you have an after market warranty that will cover this. Mine just went on me, because of a failer that a shop, to remain nameless, did to me. They added power steering fluid to my ABC channel and it ran all the way through my system. Mercedes had to flush the entire system and replace the ABC pump/compressor. The job cost me $3750, mostly labor. There is sometimes a quick fix and the part is a front strut air leak patch. You could have an air leak in your front struts, if so then this won't be as bad, the part was $200 for both struts. If it is not that and it is your rear struts, then that will be expensive. So go visit the workshop now (Mercedes only) as other shops do not know how to work on our Mercedes, I am not a dealer or repair shop, just a fellow Mercedes owner and have learned the lesson of trying to save money at another shop. Mercedes cars require Merdes parts. Bring it in and with this information, tell them what you have learned. Hope this helped

As far as the trunk and door lock issue it could be the pse pump in the left rear of the trunk there is a panel to access it. Could also be the pump in the upper left side of the trunk. The "massage" feature in the w220 chassis will not put you to sleep you can barely even notice it working. Just adjusts air pressure in the air bladders very slowly up and down not what I was expecting either. Your massage, lumbar, dynamic seating if you have it and the trunk are ALL controlled by the pse pump in the trunk that I mentioned earlier. Also if you hear any hissing inside the front seats if the pse pump is working take the seat back off and look for which air bladder is leaking. Found three leaks in mine the first week. Another thing is the pse pump also controls the soft close feature on the doors and the trunk.

That small hydraulic pump in the trunk is for the power trunk feature. The clear or white case should have fluid inside. BTW, the power trunk feature will not work if the trunk shocks are weak or have failed. The hydraulic mechanism requires the assist of the trunk shocks to lift the trunk hood.

Heres what i would do. Flush and fill the fluid for the ABC. Make sure all air is out of the system and see how it does. Only thing is i think you are going to need the star system to reset the ABC. It does a "Rodeo" effect on all 4 corners to reset everything.

Your back up dashboard battery is gradually resetting,,,see how far you get with error codes!!!,,,when they settle you got the real deal to sort out,,,I drove these beasts regularly,,,the company had two as they spent so much time with Mercedes,,,it is what it is my friend,,,

the old Citreon had a hydraulic ride like the Mercedes. it was way ahead of its time. had a lift to go over speed bumps and inclined driveways. so I believe the small tank is steering and the big tank is for the ride. which makes sense it would take a lot more fluid to run the ride height. the Citreon takes special fluid so I would check to see if the Mercedes does before filling it. I watched a couple videos of these Canadian guts rebuilding one. the you Tube channel is (cold war motors) if you wanted to watch it. also Jay Leno garage has a video on one as well. I'm sure it's based on the same technology.

It's not a radar detector. It's a parking sensor. So you can see how close you are from another car or object. Mercedes clk has that too, but not at the same place.

I have a 2002 s500 … the light on the driver's side dash that your radar is showing is the park assist on mine.. you should have two small lights in the rear above the rear glass for reverse.. they also light without the busser when you're at a high curb or intersection..have the same ABC error on mine..when you raise the car with the button on the dash.. you have to press and hold it.. and with your foot on the ground you'll notice a slow rise

On the key in your hand, take out the hard metal part, and it opens the trunk just like the older cars, look under the trunk handle.

What I would do is take it in to the dealership and do a pre purchase inspection. This will easily give you all the info you need to start wrenching.

Don’t know if it’s been said or not but the door locks are air actuated, should be an air pump in the trunk on the right side if memory serves me correctly. Also controls the soft close door function

numbered switch on the rear seat is for the air bolster in the rear seat..check your front wheel arches for rust.. they all rust in the same spot..right at the top

The pump in the trunk next to the battery is for the Hydraulics for the trunk lid it is not for the ABC system and there should be a foam enclosure that goes around the bottom and top of the pump

I think the unit on dash that lights up is linked to the parking sensors a visual guide as well as sound.

The door locks and trunk don’t work because of the air pump in the trunk, it might be a fuse or the pump is bad

The trunk can also be permanently locked with the key that is hidden within the fob, and it can then only be opened with the key. Manually locking with the key disables the remote button on the door and the fob. Since there are door lock issues, it's probably not that, but you can always check.

One last thing. As far as the trunk, that thing by the battery is for the hydraulic trunk. 3 things could be wrong with the trunk, a fuse, the vacuum solenoid to open the latch, or the hydraulic pump motor. I usually run a test light to things like the motor and try to operate the trunk by clicking the latch closed and clicking the button to test for power. The plug for that pump is by the tail light panel. Along with that there should be a vacuum pump to open the latch inside the trunk lid. If you hear a hissing when trying to open while testing then you have to replace or seal the vacuum diaphragm. Start with checking all fuses in the car and go from there. Fuses should be under hood and possibly trunk. I thought that car had the gas trunk struts, but it looks like that motor hydraulically opens it with those 2 hoses near the battery.

Thank you for all the info! You can email me at a1title42@gmail.com if you'd like. None of the locks, etc work at all and the fuses are all good. I'm betting the air pump as well.
@StealthyWolfDaddyWerewolf6 жыл бұрын
AAR, No problem. It's one of those step by step processes. I would start by running a test light or voltmeter on the motor wires for the hydraulic pump in the trunk, lock the latch and click the button to see if it sends power. Turn the key and pull the latch back open. Then you can trace the plastic vacuum line going down the trunk arms and find the motor that opens the latch and test those wires for power. It can be a goose chase, but it's the most reliable way to figure it out without throwing parts at it. I will do some research on the vacuum motor for you and send you info. The door locks luckily work. So it's between the thing next to the battery and the unlatching system. Once you figure out the two it will open itself without having to use the safety stick or key.

its a 600 so the trunk should be a soft close and hydro opening. the hydraulic struts are blow in betting money. soft close and release is controlled by the PSE pump and the fuse is under the rear seat not under the hood or the dash fuse box.

Really makes you appreciate the simple engineering in the heavy-duty spring actuated trunk on the standard 220s.
