The police came to our house when my brother died. My Mom never got over that and keeps pictures of my bro with her everywhere she goes to this day. I was old enough to know what was going on and it crushed me.

Appears at least the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Please don't forget to buckle up, no texting and most of all don't drink and drive. I've seen to many of these. Firefighter/EMT/Capt. retired.

In this case, the air bag failing to deploy probably isn't significant. Being unrestrained, as she clearly was being as her head went through the windscreen, the result of colliding with the deploying air bag is very likely to have been fatal anyway. On some vehicles, the air bag system for the driver won't be armed and active if the seat belt isn't fastened... Had she been wearing her seat belt then she probably would have walked away. At least the rear seat passenger was wearing their seat belt, had they not been there probably would have been no survivors...

If the key is on the air bags deploy if seatbelts are on or not. If a seat is occupied in a car at the time of crash the air bags deploy. There are weight sensors in the seats for this. Very likely this car was purchased used, and was in previous crash the driver air bad was not replaced, sad but it happens. If the air bag had been in place she would have likely lived.

This is sad all around, especially for the families involved. When you're young, you don't think about safety and tend to make poor decisions that can/will affect the lives of others as well as your own. I was once 17, and I have been spared many times of the same fate that others suffered only once. Call it the "virtues of youth"-accidents can be very unforgiving...…...
