I only shared the video of IU's mini concert on KZbin, any purchase and announcement is not here, only search the official ticket selling site and IU official.
Returning to this in 2024, after IU's return to Japan as part of her HEREH tour. Judging from the concert attendance and ticket sales, she is definitely well known and has a large fan base in Japan now. Some comments here asked why IU wasn't successful promoting in Japan then (2012). I think she and her agency didn't promote aggressively in Japan in 2010-2012 because, well, she had other priorities--like focusing on SK promotion, producing new albums and concerts, and acting in dramas. Japanese promotion was just something K-pop artists were expected to do in that time (recall there was even an episode in Dream High where the high school trainees went to Japan--and IU's character, Pil-suk couldn't go because of Hepatitis, probably a comedic nod to her "failed" Japanese promotion in real life, lol). And after IU started to take control over her own music and art, she had all but stopped promoting internationally. Nonetheless, she garnered a lot of attention and fans in Japan since then, due to her acting work like Moon Lovers (definite a success in China and Japan if not in SK). And depending on which (unreliable) polls you read, you can always find one or two that included IU as the top 10 k-idols in Japan. But, the reality was she still isn't as big as she deserves to be outside of South Korea. She is a very centered person, and take her growth one sure-step at a time. Until the HEREH tour, her appearances outside of SK have been limited to a few concert stops and occasional fan meetings in the Philippines, Taiwan, HK, and other East Asian neighbors. But, eventually people all around the world will know her and love her because, as many said here, she is lovely, a magnificent artist, a great personality and have the heart of gold. With her HEREH World Tour, she will finally become a global mega-star. The bittersweet part is, for UAENAs, she had been a best kept secret. But now we have to share IU with the world. IU Jjang!

At that time, K-Pop acts had more humble beginnings in Japan than they do now. SM and YG acts are under the Avex label in Japan (which is one of the largest music conglomerates there). BoA and SNSD were instant hits in Japan while DBSK and Big Bang kinda had to work their way up a bit (Big Bang's first albums pre-2012 in Japan were distributed by Universal though). Shinee were somewhere in b/t imo. Other K-Pop groups that did great in Japan in the early 2010s were Kara and 2PM whose labels were subsidiary labels of Universal and Sony Music respectively so those groups were able to hit it big relatively early on. In that period, IU was w/ LOEN Entertainment and they partnered w/ a label (East World) whose parent company was EMI. EMI would go down not long after IU released her first EP in Japan so the company was most likely weakening by that point and didn't have the funds to promote her. Also, LOEN/ EMI decided to give IU EPs in Japan instead of albums. EPs are a rarity in Japan compared to Korea so casual music fans probably weren't interested in buying an EP from an unknown foreign artist there bc they didn't take it seriously compared to albums and singles (the songs in the singles would later be released in the album). But anywho, IU only got greater as an artist and famous while keeping her humility so it worked out in the end for her.

@@kawaiiafangirl Thank you for that additional perspective. We tend to forget that idols are a brand not just one person. IU said herself, she by herself is only Lee Ji-eun. IU is the team. For an idol to be successful, she needs her team.
