For the most part I "hate watch" Discovery but I do appreciate that I got "Strange New Worlds" out of it so I get my wins where I can get them. The visuals for these shows though are off of the charts and is the one consistent positive across this generation of Trek shows on Paramount+.

What if they started Discovery Season 1 episode 1 with a scene of Spock being debriefed and have him say something like “we cannot have this ever happen again and the best way to prevent it is to never mention this ship, it’s technology, or Michael Burnam ever again…” That way we the fans can understand from the beginning that what we are watching is going to be erased from history. It would have saved all the confusion I felt when watching it all the first time.

Lt detmar is the navigator. The only reason i know this is from looking it up while waiting for her to have lines.

I think Lorca initially filled the roll of a battle hardened Machiavellian Captain during war time federation. It was very interesting to see a PTSD character taking the darker route... it felt like a betrayal to wave that kind of trauma away as a dark universe thing.

You commented that maybe we needed more episodes to get to know the crew… I counter with the fact that SNW and LD have ten episodes each and we know more about them than in five years of Discovery

Did you hear they're starting a new series between enterprise and discovery? I guess you'll have to go back now... Just kidding!

I, too, felt the absence in the routine.

I was hoping there was an Enterprise Season 5 announcement I missed. You got me!

Where you guys going to watch the Short Treks?

having only watched Enterprise before joining along the show for Discovery, the overall better stories were on enterprise for me but Discovery has the better "Mirror Universe". one of my biggest nitpicks for discovery is that it never truly felt like Saru was Captain. Archer had a presence and true struggles with "how far is too far" but saru had a "im not scared anymore?" vibe overall left me wishing the show had more episodes per season like the 20 we had for enterprise.

Side note: not a fan of camera 3. It could work better if you give Sean the opposite angle and a green screen to put you both on the bridge of the current show.

My thoughts… this was meant to take place after TNG but they knew about Picard. It would have made more sense with the testing of the Spore Drive , the tech etc. It was written for a generation that does not have time for build up just the reveal so why bother building up a story or actually creating a relationship between Saru & Burnham when TikTok and instagram celebrities create one in days? Notice that SNW does a better job with less episodes. Its written for the older audience. I do agree that it’s much better on a rewatch

I'm rewatching tos and I've had the shocking realization that there is no other star Trek property with as many corpses. People just keep dying. I guess Discovery isn't as dark compared to tos as I thought.

I genuinely laughed for the last, like, quarter of the S2 finale while they were bending over backwards to preserve/restore canon.

I wish i had this podcast when i watched Discovery seasons 1-2. It really helps having context as we digest each episode. That being said, really looking forward to SNW and especially TOS!

I managed 5 episodes of nu trek. For me its mental illness in space. None of the crew could pass the acadamy exams.

Discovery was really part of a revolution in entertainment that increased opportunities for women, blacks, gays and trans actors and characters. It's really unfortunate that instead of improving Discovery, they decided to cancel it.

They could have made better stories and characters. That wouldve helped immensely
