Sasuke knows the bond of a family and lost it, the whole village also stayed away from him. It made Sasuke trying to keep himself away from the bond that bought him the pain and sadness after losing it. They both know the pain of solitude, yet they have different take on the bonds between people. Naruto treasures the bond that kept him going, and that attract other people to bond with him. Sasuke avoided the bond that kept him from going, and that also kept him away from other people. Two side of a same coin, Ultimately, the bond between Naruto and Sasuke, is what saved them both.

@Niceguy yes, even without naruto being hokage. i would have also been fine with them both dying after the battle. Not everything needs a perfect happy end, or needs to show you the end. I would have actually preferred to have the show end right after it zooms out showing their severed arms. Would have made the perfect end shot for the whole series.
