Joseph Jefferson is 124 years old. The people in Morgan County, Georgia told me he was born in 1851, right at the end of the Civil War. In his lifetime he’s seen carpetbaggers, reconstruction, segregation, integration and the invention of cars, airplanes, telephones, radio, television, and he’s seen men go into space. He’s pretty positive about all the things he’s seen except, this 124-Year-old man hates NASA. Joseph Jefferson thinks space is a waste. We talked on his porch in Madison and he said that it’s, “the biggest lie that ever was told.” Mr. Jefferson is a man of faith and he strongly believes that the Lord put everything we need on earth. We just have to look for it. There’s no reason to go out in space because there’s nothing we need out there. Since he had lived so long, I ask him if he had any advice for me. He told me, “Keep the faith and you will make it. If you lose faith in yourself, you can’t get nowhere.” I promised Joseph Jefferson that I would keep the faith. This story aired on WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News in 1975.

He sure seems like the genuine article! I think he was really on to something, observing man's great ambition for more tax payer money to fund God knows what. I'm sure he could have thought of a thousand ways that money could be used to set us on the right track for a healthy and prosperous future. But instead we get the quintessential bread and circus. Great reporting Andy!

Basically. If it were up to people like him, humanity would never progress. You’d think after living all that time and seeing how much had changed from when he was young to then, he would think “damn. So much has changed and it all came from people pushing the limits , trying new things, solving problems etc.” , but nope, instead he calls the best and brightest technology and accomplishments just short of miraculous a big lie, and is so dense that he seems to think his god put everything we’ll ever need on earth….meanwhile in his lifetime the population got A LOT bigger, and as such, resources continue to slowly dwindle. Just ignorance and stupidity. Should serve as a lesson to all of us young people to always keep learning, always keep in touch with what’s going on with technology and current day society as we age, or else you’ll end up like him or the boomers we see today that do things like think housing is affordable, or fall for scams on the phone and lose their life savings because they don’t know how the internet works.

@@georgiatraveler I’m sure he was interesting but he wasn’t 124 years old. The oldest man ever recorded died at 116. The oldest woman made it to 123.

@@nathanielgreer2764 key word “RECORDED” the man in the video & people in rural areas around the world usually don’t have documentation of when they where born but there friends, family and those in the community remember. The man in the video was born a few years after the end of Slavery and a whole civil war! I doubt he had an official birth certificate or better yet was able to keep such documents in his possession for over 100+ years.

@@alicialloyd6048 This guy is claiming to be born in 1849. That would make it extremely likely that he was born a slave. Slave births were recorded because they were valuable. If you have seen videos of people who are over 100 years old you will understand my skepticism. He is simply to spry to be the oldest person in history.
