In 2012 I was 25 and a newly qualified doctor. Son of a civil servant I debated sitting the CSS exam. In the end I chose to not and left Pakistan to work as a doctor over seas. Some of my batch mates from king Edward medical college lahore did sit the CSS exam and some are ssp while others are in the foreign service representing Pakistan. After listening to the pov of this senior police officer I'm so damn glad I did what I did. Today I'm a dual Pakistani British citizen doctor with a fulfilling life doing work I love enjoy and find fulfilling. More power to the people who want the life of a civil servant in Pakistan. I would never be able to be the glorified slave of mpa /mna/political people/army . They should change the name from the civil service to the bara Saab service. No service to society

Mr Kaleem Imam sb seems like a well read and thoughtful individual but the way he diverted some questions shows his bureaucratic nature. No wonder he got himself promoted to the rank of IG in this system. We all know that a straight forward person has no place in higher ranks in our system. I wish he could be more candid and blunt about more stuff... But it is good to know the perspective of civil servants too. Ashir bhai plz keep this series alive. We need more interviews like this

So today I came to know why he became IG. Irrationally exuberant, disconnected from reality & tout of establishment. He was constantly talking about courage, good, evil, right, wrong, conscience, principals etc etc but he could not speak for oppressed and marginalised. He didn’t even recognise the fact that people are being abducted and brutally killed in broad daylight in Balochistan. Moral of the story: You must be a hypocrite and delusional to reach at the top in Pakistan. Finally no matter what you do but be loyal to the Pindi boys and boys will take care of everything for you.

Firstly, much appreciations for conducting such interview with someone who had seen the peak of services in Pakistan. This is not ordinary and obviously takes alot of efforts in the background. My overall impression on it is quite detailed analysis but a comment on a video is probably not the right forum for it. Let me express my thoughts in the cricket terms as Kaleem sb seems to be the cricket fan and used the examples many times. So, why do we have one Babar Azam after so many years of experiments, trials etc? Also, on the same wavelength, how comes after Saeed Anwar and Amir Sohail, we are still looking for that opening pair in batting? Its because of lack of system and more importantly, our lack of intention to create the system which would keep on producing the good players as the time comes along. Take example of India, same cricketing blood, same passion and same political issues but, did you notice the army of great batsmen that are next in line ready to come in and perform anytime? So you did not find a big gap after Sachin, Ganguly etc. You had Rohit Sharma, Kohli and many others are ready to jump in the international arena? Why they could do it and we could not? Its simply the "System" they have established at the grass route level to improve their domestic cricket which keeps bringing out shining stars. Same goes to Australia and other cricket playing nations. Do we have anyone in sight coming from a "system" who would be replacing Babar? The simple answer is NO. The same goes to all services and other walks of life. People like Syed Kaleem are not by-products of a system, they are exceptional people who performed by personal efforts to reach that excellence. But again, system is "anti" such people. How could someone with PhD rule "us"? The same colonial mindset. "Apna banda...apne matlab ka banda chahye...." and unfortunately the system props such "apnay banday" to a degree that its not seen anywhere in the world. The positive thoughts by him that there are exceptional people around and doing good work, is good but again, a few good servicemen can't run a country of 220 million population with such diversities. We need a system which works like an autopilot where things are done through proper SOPs and procedures - across the board. The clarity, accuracy and integrity of that system will bring that change where we could compare ourselves to other living nations. It is unthinkable at this time but a few decades ago thats where the majority of the world was and they achieved that standardization and rule of law.

One thing appeared is that police department have to improve their perception by producing material for various form of media, highlighting success stories and image building. This may require initial investment rest could be generated through commercial releases.

I would suggest in future to invite such guests who are out of reach of these "Boots" as people living in Pakistan -no matter how agitated by this culture- would never give you straight answers and share facts because of the very reason you mentioned "Security", whether Kaleem actually believes this is another debate and an interesting one as most people in this country who have actually made peace between this rotten system and their consciousness but Alas! change does not come from such people, A PHD is much needed to build robust systems based state but do you know what is "MOST" needed? I absolutely agree with dear Ashir on his opinion of Foj and its role in Pakistan's internal affairs. They build out huge cantonments within any given city's prime location costing hundred and thousand of dollars to the Pakistani people and they are absolutely wandering around like goons in the city. I am from Punjab and they have a huge cantonment here which takes up to 30% of the city's total area and now they are also building DHA outside the city on agricultural land that is as big as 3 JFK Airports back to back, HUGE agricultural land down to waste due to these gernails who can't get their head around equality and justice for citizens. I have never understood their presence within the city. These goons literally would block an intersection just because there are some illiterate swine of generals moving in or out of the cantonment, blocking the road for a long time, wasting citizens' time and money. I hope to see a civil government in Pakistani in the coming future that is bold enough to show the Foj their place.

Mr. Retired IG is an excellent example of survival. Otherwise, he is too sitting in Canada. This is not bad or wrong, but rather a way of survival with success. Asher sahib, you may get better and more realistic answers if the same questions were asked in private and not publicly. Again, I salute to the retired IG and his courage by putting myself in his position, he was defending everyone. Pointing fingers is too easy and need no courage but keep defending the country's organization in difficult situation need lot more than a simple courage. Just rethink.

Ashir Uncle was my childhood hero when he performed in the famous serial دھواں ، i would see my younger uncle doppelganger in ashir uncle character whilst my younger uncle who currently is a senior bureaucrat of inland revenue service. My uncle "Abc" was serving as young "ASI" in his early 20's in later part of 1990's when i as a kid watched Ashir uncle perform in the tv serial and then my uncle joined civil service and currently serves in grade 20 FBR. To my delight Ashir uncle too served in FBR Pakistan customs, Ashir uncle you have evolved brilliantly and wisely, You do love your countrymen and you do feel the responsibility to voice against the moronic dumb powers the infamously military that has the entire country from neck and are running the entire affairs of the state and the organs oscillate to their wishes. My uncle mentored me throughout my life and what Ashir uncle feels and speaks my uncle too believes in it. Ashir uncle so much respect to your batch mates but they are innocent in a way that they can't speak what you do because they have their families to look after and they don't want to land in hot waters neither would you wish any harm to them. Our bureaucracy is not rich neither as powerful to stand against the military junta until or unless united because there's so much divide among civil service groups. It's not mere responsibility of the civil servants, responsibility is shared on entire society and much more on Political leadership but sadly they are playing lap dogs of military and want to appease and please generals. Our military as an institution has become far more bullier and superior than the state that now state couldn't cope with it , Military has occupied Pakistan like the colonial powers. Ashir uncle your words of wisdom will slowly and eventually become the voice of majority someday or another if not so then Pakistan will disintegrate if it doesn't mend ways because it's a forced upon federation of people with their distinct histories, ethnicities and cultures, Fingers crossed and much love. I wished to message you but there isn't any other way for me than this comment. You both have great thoughts. I see people calling Kaleem Imam as he is fearful because of his family but I see him really honest and the one who can stand against evil. Kaleem clearly said that 80% of police is not bad and police has some authority too in our Law and Order, in which Army does not interfere if officer is competent. I think followers of this channel are too busy in focusing the defects of Army, which is not bad we should correct them but we must face the positive side of Army as told by Kaleem, as well.

My humble request to all those who are criticizing Kaleem sb in very derogatory and insulting way, please do not be disrespectful. There is a way to criticize and you have right to your views and your judgments absolutely but choice of words matters and remember, if he was not a capable, intelligent and progressive person, he would have not reached where he did. I ask all of you to look at yourself and simply ask “What is the peak of my current job and will I ever be able to reach it” Most of you couldn’t answer Yes because we are now living in different times where reaching a peak of career with diversified trades is virtually impossible. Having worked with Pakistani and international civil servants, not surprised by evasion of Kaleem Imam and presenting an all rosy picture. Of course crime infestation, Police corruption and Agencies' subversion / interference under Kaleem Imam's tenures in Sindh and elsewhere were happening on a different planet. Clearly he wants to remain in good books of ruling power centers and get a job and thus will obfuscate truth. That is why long time ago I stoped being impressed by mere Phds and other prestigious degrees of civil servants, which Ashir is enamored by here. It is their action over a period of time and being able to take principled stands that alone determines, which officer is worthy to even talk to for learning. Youth here please take note. Always scrutinize glib talk, never take any civil servant on face value.

Dear Ashir Azeem, I would like to propose you to please help us understand the structure of Pakistan's internal and external security let's make a diagram to help people visualize the structure our state follows. It will point out the problems and empower people to speak up about the hierarchy and all other influences (legal and illegal) that directly or indirectly impact Pakistani society. Kaleem Imam has the right to his opinion and I find it "ok" to highlight amazing services and brave people among many departments related to internal and external security but his opinions are rejecting A LOT of structural problems and his views seem extremely short-sighted which makes me question his logic, ability to process information about internal and external security particularly, and his career as a successful and celebrated bureaucrat in Pakistan. When a person like him lies and overlooks structural problems it goes a long way in disrupting any society. Pakistan has extremely dangerous structural problems which turn Pakistan into a fascist state unless structural problems are not addressed individual brave officers who put their lives on the line to fight crimes, their sacrifices will go in vain and NEVER be discussed. The focus must be on the structural problems and it must be made public by people like you and Kaleem Imam, but he refused to acknowledge that, I'm sure he must have his reasons but morally, logically, or in any other way it is not justified and it is shocking that he has a specialization in human rights and a Ph.D. as well, yet his opinions are extremely short-sighted. Moral of all these parts: 1. Ashir sb , I kept watching and following all of your videos and any sane person and patriotic person would agree with your thoughts and issues in our society that you highlighted and possible solutions that you suggested but it seems every discussion goes back to muqaddas gaai. I won’t blame Mr Imam Kaleem for not answering questions openly , it is simply not practical and safe if you live there with family. But one thing I noticed, he is really fond of sport’s personalities, kept referring Babar Azam 😊

Ashir sb though you tried your best and asked him very clear cut questions, but unfortunately couldn't get a single to the point answer. In the whole interview, kaleem imam sb was unwilling to disclose who is behind all this. one positive point to get from this interview is that viewers' understanding of surviving in pakistan, getting promotion to higher ranks and how the system works here has become crystal clear.
