Of all the videos I've seen on KZbin of people doing "The Hustle" dance this is the closest to what I remember from the day. In 1975 at my company's Christmas party a professional dancer was brought in to teach us all how to do "The Hustle" dance. I was 25 at the time and it is an experience that I'll never forget.
@toastnjam73842 жыл бұрын
Yes, at the beginning. The Hustle in Saturday Night Fever was also pretty much how I remember it was done. It's on YT: Doing the Hustle - Van Mcoy

1975! Summer, fall. The Hustle all over USA radio stations non stop. Cruising in my 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente 2 door hard top hearing this non stop on my Am radio in August 1975 to Arbys roast beef restaurant in West Covina California for my 2 Arbys roast beefs at 65¢ each. Then filling my gas tank at the local Shell station at 40¢ a gallon premium leaded gas with 105 octane! Ford still in the white house! Those days are long gone and never to return. Great time, great people, great country, great music, glad I lived it, and so did you.

I grew up in Echo Park and in 1975 I started my first year in high school. Too young to drive or have my own car, and Echo Park isn't for cruising without a lowrider. How the years have flown by. Now I'm 62, retired, and living out in the middle of corn fields in southern Idaho.
@truelies3690 Жыл бұрын
@@ms.annthrope415 Ahh, I lived near Echo park, around a mile away from 1964 until 1972. Remember going to that park 100's of times. Remember going to the pool across the street from the park and right next to the freeway. The tunnel under the freeway that led to the original brick library that the February 9th 6:05am 1971 Sylmar earthquake badly damaged and closed for good. Remember Pioneer Market on Sunset blvd. and Echo park Ave, and Pioneer Chicken next to it across the parking lot. Down Sunset blvd is Dodger stadium and Elysian Park, not to mention McArthur park and Griffith park. Too much to tell. My Mother worked at Krispy Kake Kone Company on Temple Street and Westlake Avenue, where the kids like I got stacks of free cones off the assembly line in the building. Spent those 8 years there in that whole area before moving to the San Gabriel valley. That time in Los Angeles California was indeed paradise compared to today. It's a Mad Max society war zone now. Left California in 1977 when it was still great. But I must say, I do miss the 5¢ candy bars, 10¢ Coke's Pepsi's RC cola in the bottle and you got a nickel if you turned your bottle in. 10¢ Hostess cupcakes fruit pies Ding dongs Twinkies. 10¢ Fritos, Lay's potato chips etc.... and my favorite 5¢ a scoop ice cream on a cone or cup at Thrifty's. Now those days months and years will definitely never ever be back. The America of then and now is like day and night.

Funny video, but people really didn't dance like this to this song. They actually did 'the hustle'. Guys and girls held hands, spun each other, and 'hustled'. Before my time but I LOVE watching them do this dance.

You’re right..it’s actually insulting to watch them. But, the songs great at least.

Yeah this is more of a Soul Train routine but it's great stuff. The Hustle was classy and grown up. My sister used me as her practice partner when i was a kid. 4 decades later I can do the moves blindfold!
@catastrfy2 жыл бұрын
i was a teen in the 70s, and it was the only hustle i was familiar with back then! there are 2 different dances called the hustle. iirc, the first hustle was the california line dance, & it was very similar to the bus stop. the modern hustle line dance is similar but has one of travolta’s moves from saturday night fever added. the partner hustle dance is from new york, is unrelated to the line dance, and showed up a little later. they’re both the hustle, just different ones.
