Hello, can I keep the automatic cut off battery charger circuit on without worrying that it might burn? my charging apparatus will be 12Vdc 1amp I'm trying to make an automatic backup power using battery like this with that connection. the battery will supply my system when the main source is cutoff, similar to emergency lights, so can i keep the circuit connected?

You can see the bc547 is connected to one end of coil pin to switch relay & when it received enough current at base it will switch on relay. Usually we use preset to set cutoff voltage but here i have used fixed resistance. 10k connected to positive that provides current to 2.2k connected to base of bc547 to switch but to avoid early cutoff, i used 180+470 ohms to groud the current from 10 k Resistor and when voltage reaches to 13.9v there current also increases so 2.2k resistor finally receives some current to base of transistor, and relay turns on and Cut Off supply to battery. If you increase resistance then (180+470 ohms) cutoff voltage will decrease. If you decrease resistance then (180+470 ohms) Cutoff voltage will increase.

Yes, you can use 5408 general purpose diode, but its recommended to use Schottky Diode as they have low drop voltage.

Thanks for your enquiry, actually it was designed to cutoff at 14.4v. But if you want to set different cutoff voltage, please checkout the another video on my channel that circuit is without relay, just simply used mosfet, also you can use variable resistor to set any cuoff voltage.

Thanks, sir actually this os basic design for just 12v lead acid battery, and lead acid battery charges full @ 14-14.4v. But lithium batteries are different and is charging full @12.6v, more than will hurt battery life. So soon I'm going to upload the Balance charging system for 3s Lithium battery
