So grateful people take the time to make videos like this. I'm headed out on a roadtrip and don't want to ask random stores for free hot water - I don't think they care much, but I feel bad and then like I should buy something, and I'm on a budget! So now I can just make my own hot water on my car trips and not bug anyone. THANKS!

Is it sold in stores or only online?

That underrated wire works as a hand warmer on a cold day, while one is waiting for the water to heat up. I'm sure that is a planned feature, not an design error :D
@GadgetAddict7 жыл бұрын
Silly me! I completely missed the purpose of that undocumented feature!

Or a neck warmer when you wrap it around your neck ;) I wouldn't believe it could boil a cup of water with this kind of wattage, but it seems to be working. It is probably better to use with thermal flask or thermal cup.

some basic heat calculations would suggest at 108 watt for a cup of water 250ml would take over 14min to get from 10c to 100c

Picked up one similar at Amazon. It's a 300w coil (well insulated) and boils 8oz water in 6 minutes flat. I use with 500wh Hackery and it only uses 9 percent of the battery.

Nice. Where are you using it? Camping?

Sounds like you just need to solder in some thicker wire and you've got a winner.

1:55 No ! It is necessary that water to make tea with (in the English fashion) is boiling. 100 C degrees. Otherwise the tea tastes like North American tea - undrinkable.

Listen2Liv. I mean that once the element is withdrawn from the soup and naturally cools it has upon it thick coating of soup which is a struggle clean off.
@serenakoleno93383 жыл бұрын
Maybe put it in another container of water to heat for washing up after meal. Cleans off soup at same time.
@iangallager40913 жыл бұрын
@@serenakoleno9338 Thanks Serena. I should have put the soup element back into heated water but was in a hotel at the time and was drinking from the only cup I had at the time. But you are right I should have reheated water around the element afterwards.

This thing has potential in a DIY automotive diagnostic smoke tester. Most projects use a few wraps of resistance wire. I'm thinking this gadget could replace that.

I would like to do something similar on a bit larger scale to heat the water in my tank using solar. I’m uk based so solar is a bit rubbish but I’m interested to see if a couple of hundred Watt panels could power a low Wattage DC element enough to make any difference to the utility bills? Even if the tiny element could only bring the 100 litre tank up in temperature a degree or two over a days sunshine would this make a dent in the water heating bills? I would consider this a fit and forget system at these low wattages as without the scaling up it would never overheat and be unsafe....a bit like having a low watt panel direct to a car battery as a trickle charge?

I really enjoy your video reviews, it would be nice if you could put up your affiliate links on products that you review, not particularly interested on this one, but on the future it might be useful,. keep the videos coming, cheers!

There's quite a lot being sold now with different current ratings. Most people would wan a 10A or less, since that's the standard for your car port.

This would work from any 12V dc source, say a 300W solar panel to an adjustable dc/dc converter set to 12V?

Interesting video ! I am considering using something like this to melt PET plastic in a steel pipe (recycling it to make 3D printing filament). Would a heater like this one reach 250 degrees C and maintain that sort of heat ? Thanks !
