Why are you yelling? We can hear you JUST FINE
@slimchancetoo3 жыл бұрын
@@sourbrothers73 It is/was common practice among drivers of V12 Jimmy's to raise their voices several notches above normal when trying to converse with one working in the background. possibly comes from the days when truck cabins were very poorly sound insulated, lots of hard plastic and bare metal, and the beast was just beneath or in front of you. Drivers of V16's usually conversed in sign language and facial expressions !!!!

@@slimchancetoo haha you got me! Believe me, I've worked on CAT generators the size of a conex container. In fact, an asphalt plant I built had one mounted _inside_ a conex box, for easy transport. You needed ear protection to get within 100ft of that thing

@@sourbrothers73 "In fact, an asphalt plant I built had one mounted inside a conex box, for easy transport." Ummmmmm those things, completely self contained generator systems and fire fighting pumps mounted inside a shipping container - for easy transport - if that is what a conex box is -- are as common as discarded beer cans in the Great Outback of Australia. Carted many of them to remote sites.
@slimchancetoo3 жыл бұрын
@@sourbrothers73 "You needed ear protection to get within 100ft of that thing" Fire fighting suystems set up in a shipping container or in a large building run WITHOUT Mufflers, air or fuel filters. My mechanic worked on them -- said it was a 'very nervy job' the Muthas could burst into life without warning if a fire alarm went off. If you happened to have your fingers in the wrong place when one did burst into life -- bye bye fingers.

Miss the sound of those 2 stroke Detroit Diesels.
@slimchancetoo3 жыл бұрын
Similar feat was actually achieved about 25 years ago at Gilgandra NSW Australia. Farmer went to a 'clearing/dispersal sale with his LOUISVILLE prime mover/tractor and ONE trailer. Bought several bits of agricultural equipment, a road train dolly and trailer to go with it. Loaded up his purchases and headed home. Decided to spend the night in a truck stop cabin rather than in the sleeper bunk. Came out next morning, his Louisville, lead trailer, dolly, drag trailer and everything else was GONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run it up to the governor - shift. There is no sound on earth like it. This is one of those sounds that I would love to have running for ten hours to sleep by. I lived on a truck route on an incline when I was young, and hearing the Detroit Diesels leaving the light two blocks away was always a thrill. Cummins? Yawn. Caterpillar? Fine. Although I did like the Thermodyne because it belched more black smoke than raw bunker fuel. But the sound of the 2-stroke was always identifiable - 6, 6v, 8, 12. Sigh. Thanks for this!

Yeah, just waiting for a caravanner to overtake then slow down to 40kph then up to 75 then back down to 50. Finally you pull out to overtake and they speed up so you can't get past, then a car comes in the opposite direction, you hit the skids get back behind them and they report you to the cops at the next town.

And some towns have a Main Street wide enough for a Road Train like this to do a U-turn. For example, if you want to walk from one side of the road to the other in Tullamore in New South Wales it’s a good idea to take a packed lunch and supplies of water. Ha ha. Good one.

Another one of those guys who subscribes to the myth of Detroit fuel consumption. Depending on its state of tune, its fuel burn is comparable to a 2” or Big Cam Cummins, again, of comparable hp output. What you detractors can’t seem to grasp, is if they burnt twice as much, or even just a LITTLE more fuel, they wouldn’t be able to sell them for 70 years, much less constantly rebuild them 30 years after they went out of production. No owner-operator or fleet manager would spec an engine in a truck that burns more fuel than the competition and hope to make any money with it. On-road and off-road people know that the profit margin is too slim to be wasteful of fuel.
