Narve village from Bicholim taluka of Goa celebrated the famous jatra (fair) of Kokodev after a gap of 12 years, on April 1, 2022. Kokodev also known as Vhadlodev, is a unique representation of the Hindu god Ram, his wife Sita, his brothers Laxman and Bharat, and lord Hanuman embroidered on a piece of cloth with gold and silver threads.
Devotees associated with the temple of Kankeshvari Shantadurga organises the jatra once every nine or 12 years.
The piece of cloth, which is kept safe inside the shrine of Chavadodev, is taken out and brought to the temple of Kankeshvari where it is hoisted on a bamboo pole and decorated with seasonal flowers.
Under a trance, a devotees carry this sacred cloth to the temple of Saptakoteshwar where Vhadlodev meets Saptakoteshwar. From there the procession goes to the confluence of five rivers known as Panchaganga Tirth.
Here, the devotees who is in a state of trance attempts to cross the river to go to the holy island of Dipvati or Divar. However, the people stop him and from there the procession returns to the temple of Kankeshvari.
