Is is stricty correct to write u(r) with a subscript k? It seems to me is has no k dependence.

Yes, for each value of k, you will, in general, have a different periodic function u(r). This is why, u(r) contains a k subscript.

Thanks for the lecture - very useful. One question: why is it not written u_k(r, k)? i.e. u written as an explicit function of k, if in general it is dependent upon the value of k?
