@captain_context99913 жыл бұрын
@@McBeamer94 Not sure what that means. But don't think these cars are lesser products just because some parts were shared. It was often not to "cheapen out" but to make things road legal you had to use parts that were road legal. And production methods, rules and regulations were such that you couldn't just make your own headlights and get them approved. You had special companies for that. For lights, but also suspension, brakes, wheels, for all the bits and pieces. Today its much easier.
@B-rad13 жыл бұрын
@@captain_context9991 And most of the examples on this list are due to corporate parts sharing rather than outsourcing. Ford owned controlling shares of Mazda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, and Aston Martin in various combinations over several decades. It's no surprise they used many of the same parts rather than designing their own given that Ford required each brand to be profitable.
@captain_context99913 жыл бұрын
@@B-rad1 Yep. And american cars in general borrowing parts whenever possible. ZERO thought spent on brand identity or heritage. Its all about cheapness. The Yamaha built Volvo sourced Noble M600 unit is a great engine. Yamaha have had a sneaky hand in many great engines fitted to road cars over the years. Toyota 2000GT, Ford Puma with the Zetec SE 1.7 litre, various MR2 and Celica units but of course the crowning glory is the Lexus LFA's V10. Ultra compact and light V10. I doubt many will disagree if I said that is one of the greatest production car engines of all time. The best bit about that is Yamaha consulted with their music division over tuning the engine's acoustics. Clearly they knew what they were doing!

Having worked at Aston Martin in Bloxham where the DB7 was made, I can say without doubt you just scratched the surface. There were bits of Mazda, Volvo and Ford all over that car. Still pretty cool though.

Not to mention a little hint of Jaguar?

Ford Sierra taillights on DB7?
@andrewmontague96823 жыл бұрын
@@Tomislav_B. It was 20 years ago so I couldn't say for sure but I remember the switch gear was a lot Volvo. Edit: I looked it up. Apparently the lights are from Mazda 323F. 🤷🏻♂️

@@OtterlyInsane Yeah, more than a little! I think the whole floor pan was basically a Jaguar XJS chassis.

You can still include sooooo many sport, super and hyper cars in next movies. Not only exterior, but also many interior parts. For example: aftermarket rear lights Hella 4169 used in many cars from Saleen S7 and Lamborghini Diablo to farm equipment. Or Maserati Gran Tourismo Radio - standard radio in many Peugeot cars. And actually Morgan Areo head lights and sidelights are from first BMW - owned generation Mini Cooper/One not VW New Bettle

To further expand on your list, the 1990 - 2004 Lotus Esprit's steering wheel is from the 1990 - 1992 Pontiac Trans Am.

A nicer way to think of this is that the parts from a mass market Ford, MG, Toyota, VW etc are of such quality and performance that they are suitable to use on ultra high performance cars from some of the greatest marques on earth.
