Wow, she has good Chinese vocabulary for someone who moved to the States at 13. I moved to Canada at 14 & I don’t know a lot of Chinese words.

Poyee Lorincz thanks to staying with Grandparents, she was forced to speak Chinese, and she also worked at a Chinese video store, so she had more exposure to Chinese.

A lot of kids grow up in Chinatown can't speak English well. Some FOB teen in Canada (Richmond, Vancouver, etc..) still go to adult schools. In those areas, you don't need to speak English.

Wong Man Ling's way of interviewing is negative, low-class and demeaning. There wasn't a single question from her without any undertone. I really wish her interview could be done in a manner that comes from a curious mind to learn about Yip's stories than marking every single aspect of her life as unfortunate, lacking and deficient. Never mind about Wong Man Ling being a bad interiwer, she simply failed to be a decent human. I admired Yip's patience toward such substandard questioning .

I don't believe the USA law will allow 13 years old kid stay home alone by themselves. The school and the neighborhood will report to police. Please don't tell lie even though you from mainland

myNameis who ... 7 & Under - Should not be left alone for any period of time. This may include leaving children unattended in cars, playgrounds, and backyards. The determining consideration would be the dangers in the environment and the ability of the caretaker to intervene. 8 to 10 Years - Should not be left alone for more than 1½ hours and only during daylight and early evening hours. 11 to 12 Years - May be left alone for up to 3 hours but not late at night or in circumstances requiring inappropriate responsibility. 13 to 15 Years - May be left unsupervised, but not overnight. 16 to 17 Years - May be left unsupervised (in some cases, for up to two consecutive overnight periods).
