It was definitely taking a huge step out of the norm with Atlantis, but I enjoyed this movie as a kid and I still enjoy it to this day. There was something a while ago that to be a Disney princess they need to have made a certain amount of money at the box office. That's why there are princess's who aren't royalty in their stories but are considered princesses because they did well in movie sales, like Mulan is one because the movie sold well. Kida is not because the movie didnt do great

Me too. I think the animation should be 2D. If it looks too real, why do we need cartoons? My view to cartoon is that some elements are drawn through the animation drawer. We use them as a reference for our imagination, but not complete follow their way. We can still imagine them for ourselves.

Sure the Instruments are amazing but I personally think the Vocals really gives it the even more ancient mystery Vibe. I don't know how different it would've felt like if they left the humming and distant Vocals out of Scores. But I'm glad they didn't. for some reason Kida was just an absolutely gorgeous Disney Princess. I mean, she is totally different from the others, in the sense that she fights, she is ready to kill to defend her loved ones and even freaking sacrifices herself in an attempt to save her people! while the movie is just alright, the characters is what makes this movie just simply fantastic

I think people didn't like this movie because it broke the usual Disney mold a lot...which is good. Notice how when Milo and Kida meets, they don't flirt at all. They actually have a conversation on something more important. Romance only comes at the very end of the film. Also, the movie could very well pass as an adventure for older adults, minus the jokes here and there. It has also an anti-exploitation message as the leader of the search party for Atlantis is only interested in the great power of the Heart of Atlantis, which would kill it's thousand years-old citizens, as it was the only thing keeping them alive and slowing down their aging significantly. Also, one thing that stands out in this movie is the design of the characters and backgrounds. It has little roundness to it.

why is this movie so unpopular? It's under rated by far! It's so creative, inspiring, funny and beautiful! I used to watch this ALL THE TIME when I was younger and I still watch it every once and awhile now. This movie will always have a special place in my heart, if not other people's.

+HydrangeaDragon Really depends on the CGI movie. That being said, there's a certain charm that movies such as Atlantis and Treasure Planet have that CGI will never be able to replicate, just as surely as there's a certain charm that movies such as The Croods and Kung Fu Panda 2 have that 2D will never be able to replicate.

In the movie, the Heart of Atlantis is implied to be a sort of alien entity that developped an attachment and perhaps, even feelings, in its own way, for those people that became the Atlanteans. As such, it granted them extraordinary lifespans and protected them in times of need. Perhaps, it only picked royal members as a sign of alliance. Or perhaps, it needed to fuse with the atlantean leaders, who wants the best for their kingdom, using their emotions and life-force almost like a battery, but temporarily. Except if the energy needed is too huge to unfuse, like when Atlantis sank underwater. I love this idea explored in the movie.

This must be on of my favourite Disney movie I have ever seen! I remember when I was like 5, when Kida steps on water, when the crystal glows and interweaves with her, when the faces of the kings fall, I always kept that and this beautiful music in mind! and couldn't forget them ever since... Hail for Atlantis, the Lost Empire!!!

This movie was kinda "hated" because we all are used to the Disney Fairy Tale Formula and kids want to see pixie dust, love or comedy. For me, I think we should have more movies like this, with History topics, to culture our children and let them think about other countries and adventures. I simply adore the animation and this movie is just awesome... :)

My intro to this song and movie was on the Disney Dinosaur VHS, ironically another movie Howard scored, the music was very mystifying to young me and I begged my dad for us to see it in theaters. Such a great film. Apparently, it didn't do well because it didn't have a strong marketing campaign. It really was meant for an older audience. Ah well, my kids will hopefully enjoy it someday. lol
