I'm 52 and started taking Naked brand creatine monohydrate about three months ago. I didn't want to do a heavy load period, so started with just a few days of 10g per day. I had mild headaches for about three days and it was hard to keep up with the extra water I obviously needed. I didn't expect any results for a couple weeks, but on the fourth day of taking it, I found during my usual workout that I could do several more reps per set and was able to basically jump up to the next set of dumbbells on every lift. I also had more energy in the evenings after work and the power I could generate on my bicycle jumped up. The feeling of having more energy in the evenings has waned a bit, but the extra power lifting and riding have remained. Great channel, guys - really appreciate the content geared toward somewhat older lifters.

@@C.H.S.D.J 5g (one scoop daily) is the maintenance level. You can start there and continue and it takes a while to build up in your body or often people first starting will do a load phase of up to 25g daily for a week or so and then switch to 5g daily. I chose to do a very short, low dose load period of 10g per day for the first week and then switch to 5g. My creatine package says nothing except one 5g scoop daily.

My joints feel better. I was doing everything before, stretching before and after my workouts, eating a well-balanced diet but I never felt nearly as good as I should have but creatine helped. At work I felt the effects almost immediately I felt as I was able to process and think quicker my energy levels are almost even throughout the day. I definitely recommend.

Excellent overview backed up with solid studies. I'm 68, 5:11 @ 178 pounds and I've been lifting weights for 54 years, since high school sports and a stint jumping out of C130s in the Army. Every time I wanted to get an extra work "strength" out boost I would load up on creatine for about 3 months, then back off due to all the and bad talk of excess weight gain, bloating, etc. Keep in mind 30 years ago creatine was not as pure as it is today. Today, studies not only show how it affects your training and muscle performance but also concentration, lean muscle mass and other positive affects. The medical community needs to be more involved in understanding this supplement since creatine will increase your kidney' creatinine (different word) in a kidney test but it's been shown not to be harmful. An uninformed medical professional (eg. internist) will gasp at the higher score and tell you to back off on the creatine. Which is obviously BS. I'm constantly having to educate my Dr.... oh well, he's an old guy like me. 😀

Good video, sir. I have been lifting weights (yeah, bodybuilding) since 13 years of age. It's been decades since, played volleyball and done a lot of swimming. Two types of supplements were with me until 1998: protein and vitamins. Then, I started researching everything on the web about creatine. Found hundreds of studies (solid ones, not the bs being done today in so many different areas) backing up the quality, efficacy of creatine. Since then, positive news about creatine just keep piling up. And since then, I never stopped taking it. All the positive, powerful effects scientists say are caused by constant use of creatine are true. Don't doubt it, people. My 2 cents.

I came across his videos and after just a day of taking his advice on vitamins, I felt like a switch had been turned on. I’d usually take naps daily, yet never felt refreshed. Good information. Creatine does have a lot of positives going for it. The only caution to know about is if you have compromised kidneys (like me) or liver. You did mention it, but I just want to stress the importance of this fact because kidney damage is very difficult to treat. (PS, I had no idea that I had the beginning of kidney problems... I am fit and exercise regularly). So, if anyone is using a lot of creatine, it may not be a bad idea to get your kidney function checked since kidney problems are usually detected when it's too late.

Thank you for your channel. There isn't a single food that can provide 100% of your daily creatine needs, but certain foods are rich in creatine and can contribute significantly to your intake. Creatine is primarily found in animal products. Here are some of the best sources: 1. **Herring**: One of the highest sources, providing around 1-2 grams of creatine per 100 grams of fresh herring. 2. **Beef**: Contains about 0.4 grams of creatine per 100 grams. 3. **Pork**: Similar to beef, it provides approximately 0.4 grams per 100 grams. 4. **Salmon**: Another good source, offering about 0.4-0.5 grams per 100 grams. For an adult aiming for the typical supplemental dosage of around 3-5 grams of creatine per day, consuming a combination of these foods can help reach that target. For example, eating about 300-500 grams of herring, or a mix of beef and salmon, could provide a substantial amount of your daily creatine needs. However, many people find it easier to meet their creatine requirements through supplementation, especially if they have dietary restrictions. Thank you

7:10 I disagree with hairloss. The question isn’t “does Creatine cause hairloss” but rather “does Creatine worsen hairloss” If someone isn’t genetically predisposed to the effects of DHT on mpb, then increasing DHT simply won’t have an effect. But for those who are genetically predisposed to DHT causing mpb - we know without a doubt that 5 alpha reductase inhibitors do in fact halt or reverse hairloss So lowering DHT reverses and stops hairloss, and stoping the drug and having DHT increase back to baseline causes hairloss to return. It would then naturally follow that, just as decreasing helps, increasing DHT for these people would worsen the hairloss. Any study that looks at this would have to control for those who are in the beginning stages, whom we know are genetically predisposed to the effect of DHT on the hair. Without this control, it’s clearly not going to show anything that is statistically significant. The proper controls aren’t in place.

As a much older, natural bodybuilder 74 , I started using creatine a few years back, as recommended and saw some big muscle gains, and increase in size. However there's no such thing as a free lunch! Yes it can increase the size of your muscles and enable you to lift more, but there's always a catch. Your muscles grow larger because of the retention of water in them. Thus if you want to maintain that " new" muscle size, you need to keep taking creatine. I had 14 inch arms, yes I know, puny size, after a couple of months, of taking creatine at the recommended dose, and no more, they with regular work outs, 3 times a week , enlarged to 15 inches cold, not pumped! However, I noticed that my waist had increased too, you can't pick and choose where your body increases in size! For health reasons I stopped taking creatine a few months later on, and lo and behold, after a while, my arms shrank back down to my natural 14 inch again. I took it because I am a vegetarian and do not eat meat, so I thought it would help me build muscle, and it did, it was very effective indeed. But just as with using steroids, its only really " rent- a - muscle" and although its safer than steroids, and claims to be a natural supplement as your body makes it. If you have to pay for it, it's not really all your own effort, building those water retained muscles. Now being an absolutely natural bodybuilder, any gains I make to my arm size, now 14 and half inches, however small, is all my own effort, and maintainable at no extra cost!

"Does not cause hair loss." Did in my case. After about a month of starting resistance training and taking creatine, I started to lose a lot of hair from the crown area big time. As I had long hair at the time, it was very noticeable. I have never experienced anything like that before or since. My understanding is that this is a rare reaction, but doesn't mean it doesn't happen ever. I'll believe my own body before I believe some yahoo YT influencer, or even scientific *theories.* Another thing about creatine that I didn't like, was that like egg whites, A1 casein mixed cow milk, certain forms of soy, and to a lesser extent wheat, it noticeably increased mucous production as if my body was trying to get rid of it, like what happens with a cold/infection or with those previously mentioned difficult to fully digest proteins. I've only tried creatine monhydrate. It's possible that another form wouldn't have that effect on me. But other forms are significantly more expensive. I really truly wish I could take the stuff, but I think it is best for this body to avoid it.

Great content. I use on and off and have always found it to be a game changer for big jumps in strength and power. 2 areas I've always had concerns over though I didn't hear covered in your video is the need to "lay off" at regular intervals so that your body doesn't forget how to produce creatine naturally. Secondly, I've never found anything published around any negative impact to the heart regarding muscle growth and thickness. The heart is a muscle too right! I have no idea if that's a thing or not but something that stays in the back of my mind🤔. Thx for posting tho. Really informative.

I've used creatine multiple times to help with weight lifting/fitness goals over the last 30 years. If I haven't used it for a few years I usually notice a significant increase in power and endurance after about 5 days of 10mg. Then I go to 5mg daily and continue making gradual gains. After about 3 months I tend to get calf cramps on cardio days if I don't eat bananas and make sure I keep hydrated which is why I will stop taking it for awhile. I've always needed to take it with something like grape juice because it's too much like drinking chalk for me otherwise. Mentally, I have noticed an ability to concentrate longer which is helpful for me because I always tend to be studying something related to my work in IT. I actually took it once after a shoulder injury. The doctor gave me a bunch of rehab exercises to do to aid my recovery and I hit them hard while taking creatine. About a month and a half later the doctor was amazed at my progress. I could tell he did not normally see this rapid of a recovery. I never told him I had used creatine while doing the exercises.

That said, there is very little research that showed the claimed positive and negative effects are conclusive. It's mostly anecdotal, even with "bought academia", if you're a conspiracy theorist.
