Japanese culture is for Japanese. As foreigner, it's a strong learning curve, and they do not take the general western ideals of "stealing" by our wonderful diversity imports since the 19th century, as something to be hand waggled away. Because they don't want to destroy their culture and heritage.

I've seen people leave their phone and wallet lying on the table when they used the restroom in Tokyo, it's pretty normal there. But yeah, I would never do that her in Amsterdam, I never leave my bike unattended without locking it.

As a Dutch person, I enjoyed this! Nice job. About rare Japanese products: They are available here I think mostly because there is a Japanese expat community living in Amsterdam hence they want/can afford high quality Japanese products. The Dutch "ninjas" also take icecreams! This happens mostly close to the seaside though ;)

Glad you enjoyed you stay in our little country. Good to see my country left a mostly good impression. Yeah.. Don't leave you things unattended outside. Especially in big cities. Things get stolen faster than you can blink. It's not so bad in the Dutch countryside but anywhere else it get stolen from under you. I love the Japanese market in Leiden. I've been there several times, as I live 15 minutes from the city.

it all depends where, i could leave my stuff in my own street for weeks and nobody would steal it, leave it outside a cheap hotel or bnb with tourists and it will gone in 60 seconds born in amsterdam and never had my stuff stolen, i dont need to always lock my bike because i can spot the 'dangerzones', as a tourists you dont have this 6th sense and need to keep your belongings closer

I loved this video and am so very sorry that things were stolen there of yours. That is awful. I have never tried any drugs or alcohol so I too would not want to have those cookies. You did fine in not trying them. That is so interesting how Japanese products are sold through the Netherlands on the road and are a good quality. I would love to ride around Tokyo on a bike but not knowing the etiquette and rules, when to ride on the sidewalk, when to ride on the road, makes it a bit of a non-starter. Luckily public transport is super efficient in Tokyo, it would be nice to be able to do it in Kyoto though as the busses tend to get stuck in traffic a lot. We did bike through the countryside near Kurashiki ... that was super nice, got a bit lost, but it all worked out in the end. the bike rental people, an older couple, didn't speak English and we didn't speak Japanese, but we managed to understand each other nonetheless. They refused to let us leave unless I wore a hat to protect me form the sun :) It's kinda funny how Japanese mom's bikes and Dutch oma bikes have a lot in common

as a drunken pot smoking Canadian that is not used to bicycles everywhere, I almost got killed by bicycles everywhere lol... entirely my fault, I of course would.look for cars but then would forget there's also bike lanes packed with people driving around. it was also shocking to see so many Dutch people asking if I was ok due to drinking too much -- in Canada, I don't think I've ever been asked if I was ok. don't get the wrong idea I drink maybe once or twice a year, and am not a troublesome drunk or anything. The Dutch people are very kind. edit; Amsterdam is expensive but I would have thought Tokyo would be worse. Also the marijuana is imported to NL and could be sprayed with all sorts of nasty poisons, if you're going to try marijuana try it in Canada or somewhere else that it is regulated and safe

I got some more answer’s about that high prices in our country..it’s because of the COVID-19 an de invasion of Russia in Ukraine we are getting low of gas and oil and electricity our country is trying to fix it too build much windmills and sun panels… and it’s also that many people that flee for war coming to our country and they want also a home and other too and that’s also a problem with to low on house’s but lucky we got helped by other countries with that too much people.. and that farmers are kinda angry on local authorities that they need to buy less cows and other animals for a stupid reason like climate change…. And thanks to that we got a little bit less food products and they make it indeed more expensive… I hope that this information was useful.
