Being Black, I thought I would feel out of place in a Latin country such as Panama. Well, I was completely surprised to find out Panama is actually an Afro-majority country very *VERY* similar to Jamaica! I've been to both, and the cultures and vibes are almost identical.

@@guillermogouldburn763 True that. I've also been to the Costa Rica border areas and it seemed so different to Panama there. The people were more "Mestizo" looking like Mexicans or Argentinians, and it was more of a traditional Latin country from the looks of it. Panama on the other hand is more Afro-Caribbean in culture, more reminiscent of Jamaica, Haiti, or the Dominican Republic!

Being a frequent visitor to Panama, I'd say this is a comprehensive summary of the best things to see in do in Panama City. Anybody planning on going to the canal should not go before reading about its fascinating history, the engineering that makes it work, and what it means to world commerce. It's so much more important than other more famous and hyped tourist attractions in the world.

Very true. The importance of the canal in international commerce and former military use cannot be understated. I wonder what will happen with the planned Mexican canal though?

You might also go to Gamboa and get a guide to go birdwatching on Pipeline road or to go fishing for Peacock Bass (they call them sargento) in the man- made Gatun lake. The fish is very tasty!
