The 1970 Buick Riviera you showed is not known as the Boattail. The Boattail Riviera is 1971-1973 only. I've began to wonder as of late also if VW didn't take their Thing styling cues from a 1950 Willy's convertible, they seem highly similar in construction, with the exception of a more tapered hood for the Willy's.
