Now that your beds are established I highly recommend using a no dig method and not hoeing anymore - I have found that feeding health established soil attracts beneficial insects and keeps plants healthy. I have also had great success attracting beneficial insects by having a native flower area in my garden - you can collect seeds from plants you've identified as native on your beautiful walks!

I am wondering, with harvesting so much, how do you preserve all these precious veggies and berries for the winter, once they can not be eaten at once? You have already shown tricks with several veggies like tomatoes and pumpkins, could you maybe specify how you store and preserve the rest? Thank you so very much.

We've had great success using soapnut water for our orchard trees and squashes. The leaves were healthier and the saponins repelled pests and fungus. A bonus is that it makes a wonderful body and face cleanser. It's incredibly gentle for our sensitive skin. I mix it with homemade lactic acid bacteria, which is a natural preservative, to stop it from developing mold in the fridge.
@ls712611 ай бұрын
How do you make lactic acid bacteria yourself? Can it also be made vegan?
@Her86m211 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips ❤️🔥
@earthzeroapothecary11 ай бұрын
@@ls7126 I use rice water rinse, then ferment it for a few days, then add to a half gallon of organic whole milk. The bacteria from the rice water will feed off the sugars in the milk. They will make curds, which we feed to our chickens, and the middle layer liquid is the lactic acid bacteria we're looking for. I haven't tried making it vegan. I use the lactic acid bacteria in my probiotic rose water spray after showers/baths, for the garden, house plants, as a natural preservative in creams and soupnut water, drops of it in our drinking water and pet water...

hello. i love this video, so beautiful and helpful. I am a gardener in the northeastern United States. I unfortunately have been dealing with the recent invasive species of Japanese Lantern Flies in my garden. In the stages of young insects and adult moths, they are so difficult to squash because they jump so quickly. I don't really know what to do because I have only seen them for the first time this past year. I also faced a hard time with my grapes, as they got black rot suddenly. Research on black rot says that it can develop over many years and once it's visible its only solution is to remove the plant and burn it to decrease the likelihood of spreading. I love my garden and will continue to try with new knowledge every year but if anyone has any advice or experience, I am all ears! Happy Planting come spring!

Another tip: encourage small insect-eating birds to your garden, e.g. by putting up a few feeders. If you encourage house sparrows and blue and great tits to your garden, they'll eventually take care of all your caterpillar and aphid needs. Sunflower seeds (or sunflower hearts), suet, peanuts (check they're certified aflatoxin free), and dried mealworms.
