Interesting build. I think a couple of the electronic kits I have, include the circuit for making a radio. I might have to dig them out and have a go 😊👍📻

Can you please explain how you attached the capacitors and resistors to the breadboard? I have never done this before and it is not obvious, and the instruction booklet also skips this important step. How do you get the capacitors and resistors to be flush with the breadboard? The components have long legs. Do I cut them? Do I force them into the breadboard until the cap is flush with the breadboard? Thank you!
@JustFun-iz9rf
@JustFun-iz9rf Жыл бұрын
Yes you cut the leads to the correct length. They do not have to be flush. I would not cut too much off in case a mistake is made. If you just put them on until you know it works then you can cut them. Safer hope that helps 👍🏼

Hello I have got this as a Christmas present and I am quite worried because I am getting no noise when I plug in the battery on the first step and do I have to fully crimp the wires?
@JustFun-iz9rf
@JustFun-iz9rf 2 жыл бұрын
Hi at the first stage do not worry too much but just be sure you have the correct resistors connected and everything is connected to the correct pins on the chip. Also be sure the battery is no an old one but I don’t think it will be. If you have these correct then even if you do not get the sound carry on to the next stage. You will find they take the resistor out on later stage. Which I forgot to do. And don’t worry you cannot damage it that easily. Hope this helps. Enjoy your gift 👍🏼

I got this off Amazon but for some reason it says it's rebranded as: Eight great stuff to make.

@@JustFun-iz9rf I'm trying to, I'm mostly going by the pictures rather than anything else. It's not super detailed as to what does what, I just added the wire which they want you to remove the insulation from for some reason, probably something to do with the two other wires touching it. I haven't actually seen your video yet, but I will tomorrow probably. I don't get why they keep having you place certain parts on one spot, but have you remove it later, the first resistor 1K being moved is for a test, but later on they have you do that again but no apparent reason why, maybe I'm just dumb but it seems pointless. Anyway I have most of the wires down. I also don't understand how the bread board works, I just know if I put a wire in one slot, it does a thing, I don't know how the board underneath connects to each slot. I do like that I know what a capacitor and resistor looks like, I wrecked a keyboard to see it's internals and it was really just this tiny board, smaller than the bread board but it has the same capacitor and resistors, but they don't say anything on them but their Voltage, so idk if it's a 1k resistor or a 100k. And the colours on the resistors in the kit are so small it's hard to see. At one point it says to use Two orange resistors, but there is only one, that was clearly a typo.

@@thereformer okay there are lots of videos on how capacitors and resistors work. Maybe a good idea to watch them. The reason they tell you to put a resistor in then take it out is because they are showing how certain things work with just a few components even I made a mistake so watch the video to the end. I have trouble reading what resistors they are but I have a multimeter to check the resistance. I wish I had an oscilloscope which would explain better. There are videos of this radio but do not explain how to put them together so I made one with a bit more explanation. The bread board well if you had a multimeter it would show the connections underneath but its hard to explain here maybe I will make a video on that. Please watch videos on it. Hope this helps good luck 👍🏼

@@JustFun-iz9rf yes my daughter got a kit for Christmas. amplifier and loudspeaker seems ok but we can't get the radio to work. Checked all wiring over, tested resistors and voltage supplied to radio and all fine. I saw your video at this point and noticed you'd added a second disc capacitor which doesn't seem to be in the kit so was curious about this. Otherwise, i wondering if the FM board itself if faulty. Any advice gratefully received

@@ThomasAspray okay just looked and yes I added a second cap. Reason why because I lost one cap so I made up the value using other caps I had. If your one doesn’t still work then maybe the FM may be faulty. Sorry I couldn’t help.

I have the same exact kit but a different instruction booklet which are the absolute WORST set of instructions EVER!!! They make no sense and the illustrations keep showing the components mounted in different places upon the board!! They have made the RED wire from the battery terminal neg and the black positive!! There is NO information on polarity of the board or indeed the ic component. It is a useless kit unless Haynes can send me a proper and correct instruction booklet like you seem to have
