Hi James. I’ve been watching your vlogs from the beginning. I’m loving it. Your work ethic is impeccable, energy is amazing, and personality is a joy to be around. I’m just watched vlog 130, your maiden voyage, and the expression on your face was won of sheer joy! Grinning from ear to ear. Loved it. And I was smiling along with you. Your a great person, son, and most important a fantastic father. I will continuing watching and looking forward to future vlogs. Enjoy it, mate! RW

Well done James, it’s like opening the biggest present under the tree and getting something even better than you hoped for 😂. My dad use to build boats for a hobby, whenever he built a new one, he would want to race with me, new against old. I always got the older one of course. One year, we were evenly matched but I managed to outwit him, took him where he couldn’t pass and I won, he was mad at me for the rest of the vacation. That was in Pointe Au Baril Ontario out by the lighthouse to Georgian Bay. The bigger the waves, the more fun I had. I hope your journeys give you a great deal of happiness and to your kids as well, so they can look back and smile.

Absolutely brilliant James. After the Keystone Cops style cargo transfer with you break dancing in the dinghy instead of rowing I couldn't stop grinning! Only you could go on a maiden voyage with half a tiller, no engine deck and performing a fuel consumption test of how many bottles of beer are required per mile! The cherry on the cake though is the bling on the stern railing! I'm chuffed for you. Well done indeed because you have a totally unique style that no one could copy!

The engine may be noisy but those Listers will go for ever. All you need is boards, and plenty of sound deadening. It looks as if you have plenty of room to put some on the inside of the Hull and that will help,quite a lot. Very sensible to get drinking water grade hose. So many boaters use ordinary garden hose and it is not good enough for drinking purposes. People spend a fortune on new boats but how many do you see with blue drinking water grade hose, very few. Have fun and I bet you'll go for another cruise soon. How about a baptism of fire down Foxton Locks then you can go to Screwfix in Harborough!!
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt3 жыл бұрын
Foxton - now that is a baptism of fire. I think I’ll need a few more hours in me before that one!! I’m certainly going to max out on sound deadening and try to reduce that noise -

She looks nice and responsive on the tiller, seems to turn really well. Don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it really quickly and a tiller arm will make things much easier 👍🏻 those little 2 pot listers are great engines but pretty noisy, when you get the rear deck boards cut some high density foam sheet glued to the underneath might help the noise a bit.

Moving the gear lever with the foot is a must. I designed my set up so I had a small step to get up to the seating on the back of the boat and the gear lever just where my foot could nudge it forwards and backwards. Helps to be surreptitious when you forget to slow down passing moored boats. (They can't hear my engine noise change either because it has an hospital silencer and sound deadening under the deck boards). To be fair I don't travel that fast I have been overtaken by a man with a limp on the towpath before now which was slightly embarrassing. My boat has a trad stern therefore I am sitting forward of the tiller arm so not in danger of being knocked into the cut by an underwater obstruction. I have had a log caught in the prop such that the tiller arm was swept out of my hands with incredible force. It stopped the engine dead. Be careful.
