1300 GALLON PLYWOOD AQUARIUM BUILD PT.6 POND SHIELD
What’s up y’all! Today is the day we pond shield this 1300 gallon plywood aquarium build! This is my first time using pond shield and this was by far easier than Fiberglassing for the first time! I’m so happy to have the first coat done! The blue will only be the undercoat so it doesn’t matter that it’s two different colors! The workable time was enough to not cure on me and gave me full coverage, I don’t have any complaints! If you haven’t done so already, hit that subscribe button and follow along, we have so many projects to do together! Thank you for your support!

what's going on, Cleveland? Haven't left a comment in a bit, but, I've been watching. This pond is the same dimensions of the Koi pond. I am going to be building in my tour greenhouse somewhere in the future. You are making this look a lot easier than I feel like it's going to be! but again, I also will be doing it blind! Maybe I can tap in and holler at you throughout my bill for some pointers if need be. Can't wait to see yours finished up! Take it easy! 🐟! 🐠

I can’t wait to build a plywood aquarium, yours looks like a fortress, dimensions seem perfect for predatory fish or super stocked community tank. Can’t wait to see stocked. Continued success

You should paint the outside of the tank black, would look really nice, can’t wait to see it finished
@TheFishCorner

I think that would be too much black but when it’s all said and done, it’ll have a nice finished look and it’ll look good.

Its really only neccesary to do as many coats as you like for the color. You already fiberglassed the tank which makes it water proof. You can also avoid sanding by reapplying coats in the time period window explained in the directions.

Hey Cleveland, another cool video on your dream tank build. Bud, I just saw a KZbin video by George Mavrakis of Aquashella fame. He did a similar large aquarium build for koi in his house. He used glass instead of acrylic for the front and it cracked and partially flooded the room. He replaced it with acrylic and said he should have used that from the start. I’m hesitant to tell you as A) you probably done a ton of research and due diligence, and B) you already spent a fortune on the glass. But I thought I should let you know all the same. I also read that glass aquariums have a 15 year average life span, but acrylic fish tanks last a whole lifetime or longer.

Thanks for the feedback! Yes I’m familiar with coral2g. I watched George and Ed build the koi pond and I seen it fail. Unfortunately he made a mistake with the thickness of glass he chose. 2300 gallons shouldn’t have had anything less than 2in plate or 1.5in tempered. He went with 3/4 plate which was the reason it cracked. Acrylic costs a lot more than glass. My channel is significantly smaller than his so I don’t make anywhere near as much as him or some of these other channels. And I have a whole family that depends on me. I won’t be buying any acrylic panels. 1/2 in tempered is good for 1300 gallons.

Those plastic rings are a pita. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to get them off, didn't know if I was suppose to cut them or if they pried off. I'd suggest coating the wood bracings with pond shield as well that you are going to put on top after you install the glass since they will be exposed to moisture and salt.
@TheFishCorner
@TheFishCorner 3 ай бұрын
Yea, they were a bich to pull off. lol and yea, I plan to properly waterproof the braces.

Think u suppose to add alcohol to the mix also it makes it alil less thick. Think it was 30ml, did my plywood tank a few years bak and it definitely helped

1/8 to 1/4 cup of alcohol says optional on the can but it Deff helps with working wit the paint. And the paint is self leveling not sure if u knew

Dude, I didn’t say you was. I just said “I mentioned that in the video” and I chose not to. It’s optional and each user can choose to or not to, at their own discretion. I literally covered the whole tank without issue. What more did I need to do? Nothing. It worked perfect for me as I stated. Maybe if I had issues with completion and working time, your comment was have been more relevant but if you watched until the end, you would have seen it was not only a success but I had more than enough working time. I appreciate the support and your feedback. I was just responding to your feedback. I didn’t think it sounded defensive, just matter-of-fact.
