While the OEM-style restorations always get attention, we get just as many requests for cars like this 1955 Bel Air. It takes those classic good looks and wraps them around a stout big block and a custom leather interior with amenities like Vintage Air A/C and a modern stereo system.
The rebirth of this Chevrolet really got moving in 2003 when the car was purchased at car show and swap meet. At that point it was little more than a rolling shell in primer with a long road ahead. The body now features a black and white two-tone selected from the DuPont catalog. The paintwork presents well from all angles and really underscores the quality work below. From the stainless steel grille to the LED taillights, every detail is in place and ready to show.
Under the hood, the star is a rebuilt 454ci V8 which pumps out an estimated 400hp. The block is dressed in black paint and topped with cast iron heads, a polished Weiand intake manifold, and a single Demon 750 CFM carburetor. Finish was obviously a priority in this bay and it shows throughout. A triangular air cleaner assembly is topped with finned chrome while GM Performance Parts valve covers proudly display the bowtie logo and 454ci displacement. Event the hardware holding everything together is polished!
Behind the big block, a fully rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic takes care of shifting duties while a Ford 9-inch rear with 3.00 gears puts the power to the pavement. The stock suspension has been updated with lowering springs and sway bars up front and a pocket kit to accommodate the larger wheel and tire package. That suspension is aided by power steering and power brakes which clamp down on front discs and rear drums. Seventeen and 18-inch Coys five-spoke wheels round out the package.
The biggest upgrade takes place between the doors where a custom black leather interior fills the passenger compartment. From the new black carpet to the custom leather headliner, every inch has been transformed. Amenities include air conditioning, a tilt column, and a Sony stereo that sends signal to Kicker and Infinity speakers.
