With different pinning I've a feeling the locksmith might have kept you out, the keyway would keep the rest of us out.

No doubt! These were pretty nasty, but with some further mods to the cylinder combined with some nasty Ruko-like pins would mean this lock would still be a resident of the naughty bucket.

hi .20 year Kaba Gege service centre owner here... firstly..this is older pextra...now we have even newer..calaed pxpa... Only difference is in that black piece actually... here is itvwhat isnit for. On some part it is for picking ..and mostly for key patent. patent for pxpa is until year 2032..when it runs out ..in history there was easy way for blank key makers to make this keys (silca, errebi, jma, kl) not any more...if you look at key under magnyfiying glass you will notice it is cut in very unusual way...they have some sort of special machine for that....if you make key..that fits inside barrel...and it is not exact size as original key...you will be able to open it but only 90 degres (or 270 degrees) but not full circle...because that black plastic falls inside and i getd hooked by bottom pin if key is not pushing it back.... try assembling it with only last pin..then picking it..and rotating it will get stuck.....sorry for my english im from Croatia....oh and this locks are made in Heezogenburg..small town 50km from wienna in austria. Gege factory is there for the last 140 years .kaba bough it around 2005. itvwas called Grundmann GeGe.. love your vidz.

So basically what I learned here is A) you'll want to out this in a situation that requires at least 180° rotation for that security measure to be effective. And 1) complex keyways also help protect the company's IP after a patent expires.

One can feel the LPL got you inspired to have a really good second look at your naughty bucket. I really love the story behind this pick. The fact the seller snuffed you out and decided to make a challenge lock out of it specially for you is just funny. I do feel you owe him one of your give away locks just for the effort he made and the fact it has been there for so long. Maybe a little pay back time too and return the favor to him by a little modifications of your own:)!!

That is probably true, I had neglected to try out some of the new tools & picks I had made on some of the older residents of the naughty bucket. It is nice to see that technology and innovation has made previously "impossible" locks possible.

I love this GE-GEs The Housingpin on number 4 does NOT go completely in the hole of te core, it protects again PUMPiN' The Pin at 13:25 is a Controlpin that the Key has the komplete fully Profil. If the Key is to small the housingpin traps the core in 90° position. And the key has a undercut so it is not able to produce keyblanks with a milling-mashine "Eeasy-Entrie" ... 99% of the usually Cylinders have tho big weaknises, Bumpin' and unautorized key-Blanks ... these GeGe is protectet again both

The rear side pin is retained by a dovetail type cut in the key warding. This prevents the pin from grabbing (probably in a clockwise direction only).
@The_Hanter
@The_Hanter 6 жыл бұрын
I think that black side pin (when you pick that lock and key is not inserted) is for preventing you to not rotate the core all the way. So the driver pin catch up that groove and you can't rotate that core anymore.

gege is one of many brands owned by kaba (now called dormakaba after dorma and kaba joined forces last year) Kaba has since improved on the pExtra series (to prolong the patent) with the pExtra plus, basically the same parts and keyways but with one magnetic driverpin on top of a steel pin in one of the chambers, this has no effect on picking though but it prevents bumping. Good work on this one, these are tricky with their great tolerances and almost no feedback. Keep it up!

If the little black nub is plastic, its probably a friction brake to put drag on the cylinder. If there is an angle on it, it might place more friction in one direction.

That last pin might be to hold a jig that cuts the undercuts then they just fill the hole to ensure it doesn’t snag.

More and more I find myself having to fashion custom tools and tensioners, or improvise how I use standard tools. I have a couple of videos coming where, for the first time, I find a non-traditional use for a large half diamond. Maybe later this week...😀

In my opinion this additional black pin could be a break. If locksmith would pick a lock sometimes he uses spring gun to fast rotate core again (if lock is locked twice just to save time and not picking second tome). When using it the centrifugal force will push this pin outside blocking mechanism or just break the rotation? (forgive my gramar)

What pushes the passive pin in the cut on the key? Is it a magnetic pin? I can't see any other answer that makes sense.

Simple compression when you twist the key. The head of the pin is rounded.

You can't search for someone on eBay. I've tried looking for vendors but it doesn't work. Anyway, they added a default underscore and a single digit to the end of mine because I didn't want to reuse an account I had years ago and had forgotten about. So you can try that or you can look for the vendor and see if Bill left feedback. :)
