Loony Linn Electric motors have an energy efficiency up to 86-87% while the best gasoline engines reach 18-19%. The figure refers to the efficiency of the motor to turn a given energy amount and transform it into motion power/torque. Combustion of potential chemical energy into mechanical energy is very un-efficient and most of it is dispersed in heat and friction of the complex moving parts.

The active's only gas engines are a 1L ecoboost (3 cylinder, I think?) and a 1.5L ecoboost (also a 3 cylinder), as well as diesel engines. This is in Europe. Soon there will be very fast charging cars with huge range. New teslas are allready pretty good. Now the biggest challenge is to build an infrastructure for electric cars. As for the people who think of "batteries don't hurt the environment" it does. It can do just as much as any other petrol powered cars. Because modern day electricity is produced in ways that also hurt the environment. In reality, EVERYTHING we humans do hurt the environment. It's just how can we limit our usages and how we do things efficiently and effectively to save the environment. If humanity decides to mainstream electric cars, our power plants will sky rocket like never before. So really we're just making it worse for everyone and everything.

I'm with ya until you started with the "Batteries pollute just as much ... etc etc." Your kinda correct, but that's not the whole story. "Scientists wanted to know exactly how many emissions conventional cars were responsible for and how many emissions electric cars were responsible for. It’s conclusion? “We found that battery electric cars generate half the emissions of the average comparable gasoline car, *even when pollution from battery manufacturing is accounted for* .” Half. Let’s take that last part first. Those who oppose electric cars like to say that electric cars create more emissions during manufacturing than conventional cars do. And you know what? They’re right! The UCS found that “Manufacturing a midsized EV with an 84-mile range results in about 15% more emissions than manufacturing an equivalent gasoline vehicle. For larger, longer-range EVs that travel more than 250 miles per charge, the manufacturing emissions can be as much as 68% higher.” So, it’s true, electric cars are dirtier than conventional cars, right? Well, actually, no. The UCS report goes on to say, “These differences change as soon as the cars are *driven* . EVs are powered by electricity, which is generally a cleaner energy source than gasoline. *Battery electric cars make up for their higher manufacturing emissions within eighteen months of driving - shorter range models can offset the extra emissions within 6 months - and continue to outperform gasoline cars until the end of their lives* .” cleantechnica.com/2018/02/19/electric-car-well-to-wheel-emissions-myth/ www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/oct/25/electric-cars-emit-50-less-greenhouse-gas-than-diesel-study-finds
