During a Christmas weekend, discover Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, with me
I'll show you around the Christianshavn, Christiana and Indre By neighborhoods
Originally Copenhagen was a fortified fishing village which was established by the Vikings in 1167
Later, during the 17th century, under the reign of Christian IV, it became one of the largest cities in Europe.
Today it is populated by 650,000 inhabitants whose average age is 35 years old.
I advise you to go there at Christmas time, like me, you will enjoy the many Christmas decorations all over the city
However, be careful, because in winter, in addition to being cold and gray, the sun sets at 3:30 p.m.!
The Christianshavn district is located on the island of the same name which covers almost 3.5 square kilometers.
Its name means the “Port of Christian” since it was founded between 1618 and 1623 by Christian IV
There you can discover the superb church “Our Savior” with its spiral bell tower topped by an enormous golden globe 2.5 meters in diameter, itself topped by a 3 meter Christ.
Don't hesitate to cross the "Wilders Bro" footbridge along the "Strandgade" street there is a beautiful view and also at the end of this street there is another church which is worth seeing because it looks like a theater with these boxes all around and a sort of stage in the center, it is the "Christian's Church"
It is surprising
Don’t hesitate to go see Christiana, whose story is as follows:
Between 1971 and 2013, a group of squatters, hippies and unemployed people formed a community of up to 1,000 inhabitants on 34 hectares who lived under total self-management.
They even created their own flag and their own currency.
This city within the city caused a lot of controversy, particularly following the sale of drugs.
Today there are only 200 inhabitants left on less than 8 hectares.
It is one of the most visited places in Copenhagen and indeed it is incredible!
The Indre By district is the historic center and its name literally means “inner city”
There are quite a few shopping streets such as Støgei Amagertorv Street, Købmagergade Street, Frederiksberggade Street, Højbro Plads Square and Old Market and New Market Squares.
I also recommend the "Jorcks Passage" and the "Gråbrødretorv" square where a magnificent tree stands in a setting of colorful facades and the "Magstræde" street
Don’t hesitate to visit the University of Copenhagen library, it’s breathtaking!
