Great job, Julie! They are really nice coasters. You really worked for these and all your work paid off! Yay!! I will use the tip on putting clear resin in the bottom of the mold before you put your coasters back in, that will really help when I finish off the coasters I make with your snake and crushed velvet inserts. I don't like that resin seeping back down the sides either. Love the cork backings in these. They are so nice and thin. Great purchase!

Wonder if it would work if you put a very thin layer of clear then add your pieces and top with white. If you get bubbles then you can top coat with clear
@mahoganyrootsstudio1582 жыл бұрын

I'd have added some chips on top of the white after pouring so you'd have more color throughout or pour a lot of chips in just arranged a lil then add the white. And keep all 6! that odd one out has character!

I think they look better after being sanded. They are gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing you use the little squares, They are so cute and should look good as a coaster. Also looking forward to seeing the coaster holder for the terrazzo.

see if the cork fits in the mold. if it does drop it in sticky side up then drop in the coaster and press. that would help with the lining up. I'm excited to see what you come up with next. I just bought some coaster molds the holder for mine is like a cylinder that you drop the coasters into. Everyone will be getting coasters for christmas

Think the clear might work. Terrazzo is not milky but stark white with a touch of brown. Just a slight amt. So it appears off white. Off white in paint is achieved by adding orange. Just a thought.

These are fab!! Love terrazzo! I don’t know if this would work, but what about mixing the pieces into the coloured resin before you pour? You would get that inset look, that you would probably lose if you mixed them into clear resin? X
@tommy1974b Жыл бұрын
This is very similar to how real terrazzo stonework is made. Various colored stones mixed with a plaster/cement and then poured, cut, sanded, and polished. If you did it with the resin pieces mixed into your white base, then slowly poured the mixture into the mold, you can get bubble-free results.

There’s a product called Milliput Putty, sometimes the woodworkers use it when they have holes in their projects they put that Milliput in there and scrape it off flat and then it fills the holes. maybe you could find a gold putty product to fill the holes. Or pour a gold resin over the top and sand it back.
@SilverRose092 жыл бұрын
Maybe a clear code first and the white code last - but great solution with sanding - they turn out fabulous
@genettejennings55372 жыл бұрын
Awesome Julie. Just a suggestion, not sure if it would even work but couldn't you use some type of latex in the bottom of your mold, the kind they put on the bottom of coasters when they are doming and then peel it off when you de-mold the coasters? So put a layer of latex, your pieces, the resin, let set and remove the latex at de-molding. Hope the second part is clearer. I sometimes confuse myself. :)

Bravo! They're so beautiful! I'm definitely going to use this technique in some of my resin pieces!

Hi Julie! Absolutely wonderful and the colors are beautiful. I am new to resin and learn a lot from you and love your work. I have two questions and I hope you have time to answer them. I have learned that the resin and the hardener are mixed equally, in some cases, how come when you mix them, A is usually twice as heavy as B? My second question is about protective masks. Do you wear a mask when working with resin?

I wouldn't toss the one that was sanded down through the tiles, I personally would add a waterslide to it and a coat of UV RESIN on top. They turned out great.
@JennifersJemz2 жыл бұрын
This is a great idea!! Thanks for the inspiration. *I just had an idea that may work... what if you did a tiny layer of clear to set them in first, then did the main coaster color, then flipped them over and did a really thin layer of the main color (just like you did this time at the end with the clear) to give the embedded look over the terrazzo pieces? I think this may hide the clear & give the look you are going for while avoiding too many bubbles. Just a thought. I'd love to see if it'll work. Your pieces are always pretty in the end anyway. Happy Creating!!

@Bobo-gm9fd2 жыл бұрын
Not sure it matters which way you put them down, once you put topcoat on they all be shiny anyway

Terrazzo is sanded after it is poured. So, that is really how it's made.
@CeruleanBlue19672 жыл бұрын
Could you just mix them in your white? The pieces should sink and give you the terrazzo effect. Maybe?!?
