all these early eps of corrie ... they were mostly doing something on stage Performing, singing, danicing ... Its like a 70's version of phoenix nights.

It was great. More like theatre acting. Great sets too. Nowadays it's mostly outdoor scenes of people shouting at each other.

They used to love having a song song in the pub too. Every Christmas they would get around the piano and sing. You would never see that on a episode now a days x

Gerry Ogilvie Peter adamson was a dodgy bloke in the end. Died in one bed flat alone , not even Julie Goodyear would speak to him in the end

You can say that again, now it's just about good looking people, with no real substance not like the real brilliant characters. That we had back in the day. There are good actors out there, of course. But there was something about what we had, back then. & it's got nothing about you're age, it's you're own personal opinion.

Dorris speed a a legend her finial days was in a nursing home she knew she read a book had a cigarette got went to her room put on her best frock and put on her full face make up wen back to the living room to finish her book and fell a sleep carer tried to wake her but couldn’t that because she made peace with her maker

All Coronation Street is now is a basically a violent crime series set on a street in Weatherfield with nothing but violence. Back then, it was actually worth watching. I miss the good old days.

Why do so many people talk as though being born after a certain decade means a person doesn't qualify for a career in acting? I've seen just as many quality actors from recent times as there were from 50 years ago. Not to mention those who talk about the show, saying it's not the same now. I hope, and am glad it's not. Streets aren't the same now, people aren't the same now. We already have Coronation Street that represents 1970s people. What we need, and have, now is Coronation Street that represents 2020s people.

@Hicksteria TV! You have a fair point. I was born in 1976 so I only remember Coronation street from about 1981/2. I do still religiously watch the programme today and enjoy it. You may be right that streets aren't the same today as they were in the 60s or 70s, but to be fair, how many streets today have the number of serial killers that Coronation Street provides today, or how many neighbours are all sleeping with each other like they do in today's Coronation Street? I also agree that there are many fine actors in the street these days, but there is also a case to be said that some actors are cast for their looks first and acting ability second. Both Warren Jackson and Dawn Acton for example had both played their parts well, but were recast because the producers at the time wanted "sexier" actors and, with all due respect, the current version of Nick Tilsely is, in my opinion, not great and at least ten years too old.

@@derekhorne8076 A lot think the writers are obsessed with serial killers, but, there's only been 3 in the history of the show. Richard Hillman, Tony Gordon & Pat Phelan. Sounds more like viewers are obsessed... but they do exist in the world. Coronation Street didn't invent the term. It's a shame I can't post pictures on here, as I have a viewer letter from 1964 I found which is very interesting.

@Hicksteria TV! That's a fair point, though I think we can add Stephen Reid to the list. Or at least, legally so if he kills one more person. But, although things may have changed in 60 years, have things got so bad that one small back street can throw up four serials killers in the last 30 years, not to mention those people who have killed one person rather than several? In the first twenty five or so years only two people, three at most, I can think of that were murdered. In recent years you surely must admit that more and more people are being murdered more regularly than before. I am sure that people have always complained - whether it was the plan for Shelia Birtles to commit suicide, or the murder of Steve Tanner and the suicide of Joe Donnelli all the way up to day. But I seriously doubt that one street with about 15 homes or so in it sees as many murders as coronation street does now. And not just the murders but also all the bed hopping, as I mentioned before. I accept there has to be change, and I still watch and enjoy the show and there are far worse ones, but there is still room for some of the older style characters and stories.

Does anyone know if the cast were drinking real beer and spirits at the Rovers Return? I know that they generally shot scenes in one take, but still...!? I've always assumed it was real, and have always noticed which bar staff could pull a proper pint, and which couldn't, but when you see them downing several of pints in record time, it makes me wonder how they could remember their lines (and avoid burping!) 😉

Alexander Jones Mrs Morris was played by Barbara Miller. She was in Auf Wiedersehen Pet & Black Adder. She is very like Fanny Carby,that’s who I thought she was at first! 😊
