Yep, the strings sound better here. At the Jools Holland, the strings sound out of tune at some points. However, the Jools Holland version is a bit edgier and better overall, especially with Isobel's talking part. Just my 2 cents. :) Fantastic song either way. This has been my favorite Belle and Sebastian for quite some time. Amazing arrangments. The part where the choir sets in and the transverse flute(?) plays the high note, gets me every time.

darbonify i love the bassoon in the studio recording, particularly the growl that punctuates the end of the song. Its absence is definitely felt in this performance
