What I tend to do is make a line of soldiers in front of the castle and archers behind them. Take out as many archers as I can then retreat as my soldier's shields start to break. Usually I'll get a penalty to moral from retreating but a bonus to my moral from the battle itself. Then with new bolts for my crossbow I attack again this time with my soldier's charging up the ladders now that there are less archers firing at my guys from their flanks

Note- Sieges on towns are a bit different. Although the initial battle is the same, the battle carries on into the town center where you and your companions(or lords if you are joining in on their own siege) fight alone against several guards, and then again inside the keep.

I put my archers in front of the infantry so they are not blocked when it comes to firing. When the enemy Cav/infantry starts charging, I'd get my Calvary to charge and intercept, whilst placing my infantry in front to prepare for the charge.

As far as A.I., and guarding a castle you took over, do you need high level troops to ward off a siege? Or could let's say 2-300 recruits convince the A.I. not to attack? in other words, quality vs quantity. Not for fighting per se, but to discourage being sieged. I'm new, and just took my second castle. I can't really highly defend both. Will high numbers of cheap personnel ward off attacks for awhile? If that's even a mechanic or consideration of the game.

Awesome vid, you siege rhodocks, baby sieges your battlestation haha. I gotta be honest i also chose the Hammer as one of my melee weapons and i love it. One hitting guys so often. When i fight sea raiders, i'll dismount and knock out like 20 of them. Had to jack my prisoner management because of this. Each sea raider sold for about 112, so i sell 20 then the gear i got from them. Usually meaning every sea bandit battle upgrades my guys pretty good and yields about 2500-3000 gold. Loving the Huscarl/Vaegir marksman combo for sieges so far.

Nice vids man, been watching a few recently. I wanted to ask what is your opinion on ranged units in this game? How useful are they? And do you prefer crossbow ranged units or bow ranged units? In your vids I've seen mostly Vaegirs as your ranged component while you kept praising Rhodoks Xbows a lot more.

Scythe There is a difference in the firing rate with xbows to regular bows. On the battlefield you want speed, so the vaegirs are going to win there as they can just mass out arrows a lot faster. In sieges, oh man do you want the stopping power of the xbows. It's all a matter of application but in mass...archers are super deadly.

Theses are really helpful but...when ever i go up ageist castles or large battles in general my frame rate just drops, to the point of the game freezing for 5-ish seconds :/ but when i land a kill with a bow at rang, air horns go off in my head and i do a little mind dance :D

So when you capture a town or a castle is it better to give it to one of your companions, yourself, or leave it to be decided for later? Which way brings in the most money on a weekly basis? Its the money thing I'm trying to streamline the most. Some places are giving me money and some not.

How do I get my Allies to help me siege? I asked to Jarl's to go to a castle it will be easy to take I went ahead and started the siege and when they got there attacked but it was me and 20 guys vs 100 when there was another 150 nords just laughing at me and the Jarls liked me so I have no clue

Quick question, the one thing i haven't done so far in the game is start any enterprises or upgrade any of my towns or garrisons. It seems expensive and time consuming, is any of it actually worth it? I have about 110k gold, but if its not going to help me, why spend it. I'm still a vassal under King Ragnar, a little nervous about starting my own faction, right to rule is only about 28 i think. Would love a video on starting a faction worthwhile upgrades and which mods you thing are worth trying(there are so many). Thanks!

I would put all my money into making silk in every capital city. If you know you're going to take a city in the vaegirs area as your first castle, then buy an enterprise in each of the other cities. ITs super good money and if you did happen to lose a battle, you're still making tons of gold from your businesses. Think of it like the bank of Mount and Blade, and do it! If my voice holds out, I'll do a video on it.

Party size is dependent of leadership skill,charsmia, and renown leadership boosts 5 more troops(plus extra morale) charsmia 1 per point and renown I don't know but I heard it does

Renown is very important, 5 points of renown gives you 1 point of party size's limit, also the charisma and Leadership skill, but after thos eare up, still have the renown and morale of the army/party. Just imagine you have 1000 of renown, that's 200.

Having played a fair bit of both, I definitely prefer Warband because there's less of a chance some rando with a musket will ruin your day, and you're able to get into combat a lot sooner. That said, I do think Fire and Sword generally encourages more tactical play (again, firearms will mess you up if you don't account for them), whereas with Warband if you've got even 10 top tier cavalry you can just wantonly charge in and wreck basically anyone on the field, while sieges just hinge on letting your archers pick people off before sending in decent infantry. If you're looking for more action, I'd recommend Warband, but if you're looking for more tactics Fire and Sword might be the better option. That said, they're both incredibly fun games, and if you enjoy Fire and Sword you will likely enjoy Warband as well.

i have a question... my tactics is all the way up to 10 and say i have an army of about 100 cavalry dudes, 50 infantry dudes and 50 archery dudes. when i commence a battle where i'm allowed 40 dudes on the battle field 35 of them will be cavalry and only 5 of them will be infantry and archer dudes?!? do you have any idea how i can kind of choose how many dudes and their type i let on the battlefield?
