Hi Denise. I designed a lot of Wiggly Crochet patterns 10-15 years ago. I used worsted weight or bulky weight yarn in most of them for the wiggly stitches and lace weight for the mesh. I can't remember what weight Aunt Lydia's rug yarn is. Happy crocheting to you!

@TheCrochetArchitect 3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how you'd blend tapestry crochet and wiggly crochet. If you do it successfully, I'd be very interested in seeing it! I have lots of patterns for wiggly crochet that have pictures/designs instead of just squares. They're done exactly like this hot pad/coaster, but with different charts to follow to create the pictures/designs. You can see the patterns on my website. The link to each pattern is in the description for this video, too. Happy wiggly crocheting to you!

This tutorial is very detailed, thank you so much! I was hoping to make a rectangular rug, and was wondering if the base chains for the mesh should be in multiples of 3 or 6?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
You're very welcome. I use a multiple of 6 chains plus 2 extra chains for my Wiggly Crochet rugs. Then you'll work your first dc in the 8th chain from the hook. You should end up with an odd number of ch-2 spaces so the corners will turn out correctly (you'll also want an odd number of rows in your rug project). I have a Wiggly Crochet Fish Rug pattern on my website. If you're interested, you can see it here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/wiggly-fish-rug/. This pattern page will also give you an idea of what size yarns and crochet hooks work well together for a Wiggly Crochet rug. You can get other ideas for yarns that work well together on my Ravelry rug designs page (mostly Wiggly Crochet Rugs) here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#craft=crochet&pc=rug&designer-link=susan-lowman&sort=date&view=captioned_thumbs. For Wiggly Crochet rugs, it's best to use a thinner yarn and smaller hook for the foundation mesh. I hope this helps. Happy Wiggly Crocheting to you!

@@TheCrochetArchitect I’m having a bit of trouble with finishing the rounds without the join being visible. When you join to the beginning chain of the round, do you slip stitch and then end with a ch 1 before cutting to finish off, or just slip stitch, cut and pull through to finish off?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
Great question! I typically join with a slip stich, ch 1, cut the yarn and pull the tail through. However, I've seen people who don't do the ch 1 before cutting the yarn. I tend to tighten the slip stitch after I pull the yarn through to make it less visible. If you'd like a truly invisible join at the end of the rounds, check out my video for the Invisible Join here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHPYh52ZpNd3hc0. Happy crocheting to you!

Oh wow that’s so cool! Is it possible to use latch hook mesh instead?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you like it! I actually tried using latch hook mesh many years ago and I found it to be very stiff, so it didn't work out. It's best to crochet the base with yarn or crochet thread and crochet the wiggly stitches into the crocheted base. Happy crocheting to you!

Great tutorial...best one I have seen. Is there a certain multiple to use with thicker yarn? I have an eye disease and can not use really thin yarn, even though so much of it is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for explaining it so well.
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect 4 жыл бұрын
Patricia, I'm so glad that you enjoyed my Wiggly Crochet video! I always aim for odd-numbered multiples when I design my Wiggly Crochet patterns. This is for both the number of mesh wide and the number of rows high. You can definitely use thicker yarn and bigger hooks for Wiggly Crochet. Check out the Wiggly Fish Rug pattern on my website for more specific info about what size hooks and yarn I've used for more of an idea of what you can choose for your Wiggly Crochet projects! And please let me know if you have any other questions. Happy crocheting!

Just curious, but if I wanted to make several of these and join them together, what technique would I use for joining them.
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
Great question, Drew! I've never joined them together before. But if I was going to do that, I would join the mesh bottoms together with either whip stitches, slip stitches or single crochet stitches. I'd try to insert the needle or crochet hook between the double crochet stitches from the wiggly crochet stitches and around the mesh stitches (dc and chs). I'd work the joins on the back/wrong side. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!

Thank you so much for your well detailed explanation! Please, your mesh contains 13 spaces each side, is it necessary to be an odd number?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect 2 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome, Iman! The reason I design wiggly crochet projects with an odd number of mesh and rows is so the corners will come out right. If you use an even number of mesh or rows, you won't get the wiggly stitches going around the corners.

Can you use a j and h size hooks with 4ply yarns for wiggle crochet?
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
You can use any size hook and weight yarn that you'd like with Wiggly Crochet, Rachel. I used a size I (5.5mm) and E (3.5mm) on a rug I designed that you can see on my website here: thecrochetarchitect.com/downloads/wiggly-fish-rug/.I typically like to use a smaller hook and/or yarn/thread for the base of the piece. Then I use the larger hook and heavier yarn for the wiggly stitches. It's a great crochet technique! Happy Wiggly Crocheting to you!

I have done squares before. Do you have a pattern or tutorial for a rectangle? It doesn't have to be fancy like your flag one, just a rectangle. I'm thinking for the side of the sink where the dish soap and hand soap go.
@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't have a pattern for a rectangle for the side of the sink. The only rectangular wiggly crochet pattern I have is my Wiggly Fish Rug (and that's much larger than what you're seeking). To make a rectangular wiggly piece for the side of your sink, you'd make a mesh that's an odd number of mesh wide and an odd number of rows high. Then you'd fill in the mesh with wiggly stitches the same way I filled in the mesh in the square piece in this video. I hope this helps! Happy crocheting to you, Rosanna!

@TheCrochetArchitect
@TheCrochetArchitect Жыл бұрын
It would be fine to crochet from the center out as long as you're absolutely sure that you're starting in the center and not one square off in any direction. That's why I start on the edge and work my way into the center. There's less chance of errors that way. Happy crocheting to you!
