Trees here need fire to reproduce. Fires aren't bad per se, and the ash is good for the compost. Ash is also a good polish for plexiglass.
@private153 жыл бұрын
Fires release a lot of carbon into the air as CO2. Composting adds organic material to the soil and you need a balance or organic and inorganic to make good growing soil. Also organic material in soil increases the soils ability to hold moisture and slows the run off resulting in less erosion.
@simonharding70843 жыл бұрын
So much brush, composting it all is a bit unrealistic. And fire might discourage some regrowth so you can keep the thorny bushes and briars at bay. Also a small warming fire is always a good thing. Ignore the PC naysayers on KZbin. Especially when it's wet out.

A suggestion for root stump removal, after sawing down to ground level, take a long drill bit about one cm big and drill many holes as long as the drill bit into the stumps, this will give access to wood eating insects, they will get rid of the stumps overtime, also chipping all the wood is a good idea

That hole in the ground would make a great fire pit for when people are visiting. Clean up all around it to make sure there's space between the pit and the trees, surround the hole with bricks or tiles from the warehouse and you have a large contained space for safe camp fires. You definitely have plenty of wood. At least then it serves a bit of a purpose providing heat and a relaxing evening.

for the tree stumps, you could use a number of methods to inert the regrowth, you can burn the stump head with a blow torch, or paint a thick coat of tar or limecrete on top of the stump, technically concrete should also do the trick. Leaving the roots in is a good way of preventing further soil erosion. Which, should be one of your main concerns in landscape management because it rains so much and runoff is eroding your land slowly. Also add an email to your website.

Using fast growing wood to burn as fuel is good it’s sustainable. The heat from the fire can also generate electricity. Look up thermoelectricity. The smoke and gas given off can be transformed into fuel using gasification. You can. Then run your vans on the fuel. Using your land to grow food uses alot of man hours and is subject to alot of conditions and uses alot of water. Aquaponics would be excellent for your community. I’m not saying, ‘Don’t chip the wood’, but from my experience, the chips don’t always compost in a reasonable time. Sometimes they do, but not always. When I was a kid, the local lumber mill didn’t pulp their chips like they do now,. So the mill used to ask farmers if they could put their chips in out-of-the-way places on the farmers’ land. There was an old disused gravel pit (about two or three acres in size) by our farm where the mill brought truckloads of chips. Those chips are STILL there and that was more than 45 years ago. I mean, they are on their way to being fully composted but they aren’t gone yet. Having said that, I suspect that the rainy climate at Project Kamp would degrade the chips faster than the ones by our farm. I would probably find ways to use the long sticks and trees as much as possible (fences, etc). I would also chip some of them. But, for me, burning some of it (especially the thorns) would also be in the picture.

The YT comments are wrong. Burning that brush IS the best way to get rid of it. If you compost it, you actually release more methane than by burning, and if you do the burning in any kind of open top container, you can convert 20 - 40% of the wood to carbon, which you can sequester by using it on your garden beds. And if you had made the brush pile on top of the stumps, and then burned it, you would solve your stump problem as well. Green keyboard warriors in the comments section are often wrong because they don't know anything about chemistry or thermodynamics.
