That doesn't make any sense if you are not a big drinker. I would actually be stressed out about meeting my number of drinks every day, I can only drink 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks a day or else I'll be hungover the next day. So I would have to ingest a lot of calories in other types of drinks to make up for it.

What makes the package worth it is it includes bottled water, specialty coffees and teas and milkshakes as well as alcoholic beverages. So even if you only have a few alcoholic beverages a day it would still be worth buying the package.

I don't drink enough to justify buying Cheers; however my friend does. So, I buy it anyway and just look at it as another cost of my cruise. Plus, I have used it to try liquors that I'm unfamiliar with. On a transatlantic cruise, I got to know the bartenders at one bar and they worked with me. One day I sampled different rums. (They'd pour a shot of different brands so I could compare.) On another day I tried liqueurs, which I loved. So I found a value to it, even if it wasn't monetary.

Wow, that drink calculator is fabulous. I don’t drink very much. Could never drink 15 drinks a day. But the calculator showed me that just 5 cocktails could cost $13 each. Then if I add in soda, juice and water per day- drink package is worth it. Paying prior to cruise makes your cruise stress free re: total at end. Thanks for this video it was informative and made me realize package is worth it even for light drinkers.

Yes it is worth it. It includes the coffee at the cafe and you only need to drink about 6 a day but you get water too. Well worth not having the hassle of what you are spending

It’s definitely worth it in my experience. I cruised on Valor back in 2017 and had maybe a total of 20-25 drinks in an entirety of 4 days and spent well over $400. When I decided to get the drink package the following year on a 7 day cruise I used my 15 drinks up every day and spent about $366 for the whole package. It really depends on you and how much you drink too. I love mimosas so I’d wake up and have at least 3 at brunch in the morning and then whatever I didn’t finish throughout the day I’d go to the nightclub and get shots later on.

We've always found it to be worth it. My husband will drink 12-15 beers per day (even port days bc we stay up later in the casino or comedy show) and while I dont drink a lot normally, on vacation I'm usually good for 2 mimosas ($9ea) at breakfast, a "pool drink" or 2 ($10-11 ea) during the day, 2 glasses of wine at dinner($14 ea) and 2-3 cocktails ($12-13 ea) at the casino or comedy show. Not to mention morning latte at the coffee bar, all of the bottled water, a couple sodas, and the occasional milkshake from the coffee bar while playing trivia!

i Just came back from a cruise on Crnival Victory, Had the best time in my life. I highly recomend the drink package. I tipped the bartender $1 to &2 even though there is a build in gratuity and the drinks always came back like i ordered a double and sevice was quick, after calculating my tip into each order I was ahead of the game.

@@patrickd1683 That’s just not a cool thing to say. I’m a single mom taking my 15-year-old-son on our first cruise since pre-Covid. It’s been a long time. This vaycay is extremely necessary for me and him. My son is high-functioning on the Autism spectrum but you wouldn’t know it and he was stuck home with virtual learning for the majority of the past two years and I had to be with him. I’m a paralegal and my job went away. The courthouse is still not staffed in person and judges use zoom. I didn’t have a job from March 2020 until last month and cruising just reopened in July I think despite having my reservation made in the spring for Christmas. I have no family alive to help. I just kept thinking “normalcy.” It didn’t happen. I have been on 16 cruises, my son, 3. Money was and still is tight and will be. After the extremely long Covid crap and doing everything we were supposed to do, we’re still dealing with it and honestly? I’m sick to damn death of it. It affected me personally, physically, emotionally, and financially. With that being said, the drink packages are a bit high in my opinion particularly since my son is a minor but we want the alcohol free drinks and milkshakes. For you to come right out and say I shouldn’t be going if I hesitate about dropping $1K on beverages at this time is really judgmental and not ok. I will pay extra for gratuity if it’s earned. 18% is sufficient. People need to be kind to each other. I don’t waste money even when I have it (pre-Covid) because that’s how I have money. It’s just me. I deserve this vacation more than most because many people were not affected by Covid and their lives didn’t miss a beat. In NC? We shut down and can’t even get school bus drivers and teachers. I’m happy you are fortunate enough you don’t have to worry or question cash spent. It’s Carnival. Not Royal Caribbean or Princess. We just want to relax and recharge.

My last two Carnival cruises, the last night at sea, they were running a 2-4-1 special. I asked if it worked with the Cheers package and was told yes. I had 3 double SoCo's over the course of the evening, and to be sure I checked my billing when I got back to the room, and indeed, it was covered under the package. Also, the second time I ported in Nassau, I stayed on the ship and they ran a frozen drink double special while in port only that was covered. The other 3 times I ported there they didn't. But doubles as a daily routine, they weren't covered.

15 drinks per day sounds like something you could do in one full day, but be aware that the bartenders are very generous. 15 cocktails probably equals 25 or 30 units of alcohol. If you can drink that much, you are one of the few. We do, however, purchase the Cheers package because we more than break even with a mimosa or two in the morning, four or five drinks throughout the day plus two glasses of wine with dinner and maybe an after dinner drink. On top of that, we also have Pellegrino or Perrier because we don't like the water onboard. It more than pays for us.

I have purchased the cheers package for myself, my wife, and my newly 21 yr old daughter, but i thought about canceling my wife's just to see how much she would pay over the course of the cruise versus how much I would drink. By the way, we booked our (2) rooms: wife and youngest daughter (soda package) and me and older daughter (both cheers package) but wife will be staying in my cabin and the girls together (we're not "that" kinda family, ew!). had to book it this way to get the VFIP discounts because this will the the girl's first cruise. That's right. Texas laws cause some issues for drinks on the first day until you get out to international waters. The cruise lines even has special menus for when they sail in Texas waters.

So the drink package can cost more than the room! They try and focus on $56/day but if you add that up for the total amount for the whole cruise, which you should, most people would rethink it if logical. Most times you don't get a full day on embarkation day, or they can't serve until 25 miles out to sea, so you won't get anything on that first day. Let's estimate $65 (guestimating tips) x 2 (second adult = 130/day x 7 days = $910 How much was your room rate? Just drink on land, people! Not worth it!

Yes, gin/scotch should be in the duty-free shops. Prices are usually a bit cheaper than what you'd find on land. Yes, bags are checked when you return. Free water is available in restaurants, bars, and the buffet.

You can buy alcohol at the ports but you have to declare it and turn it in as you get back on the ship. They ask you if you have it. They don’t do a full search of your bags as you get back on the ship but you are asked to pull out cello phones and things that are metal from your bag. Then you put your bag on a short little belt that goes through a scanner as you walk through a metal detector and they check your ID. You could use rum runners probably and refill at ports if you wanted to. There is ice water on the ship but sometimes it tastes a little off. I don’t know about buying tonic (or bringing it with you). You can carry on a 12 pack of canned non-alcoholic soda.

Well the drink package does work when you're in port at Princess Cay but that's only because its carnivals island. If this has already been answered, then I apologize. I didn't want to read all 634 comments. I cruise out of Texas which has crazy, annoying laws regarding alcohol, This includes onboard a ship that is not fully considered "at sea", so I wouldn't be able to use it the first day. Then there's the last day when we arrive back at 7am. If I buy it, am I charged for embarkation and disembarkation day? In other words, on a 7 day cruise out of Texas, am I charged for 7 days or 5 days?

You are charged for six days. On a cruise, the day you board counts as Day 1 of the trip. The day you leave doesn't count as a day at all. So the first day the drink package isn't included, so you have it the six other days.

Just a little clarification, you pay the 18% tax/tip on the package AND each individual drink? Example, I buy the pkg online for $61.30 x 2 with the 18% already added times 7( trip length) = $858.20. If 4 -21yr old adults are in one cabin.. damnnnnn. Once onboard, 10-12 alcohol, soda, cappuccino, and smoothie drinks per day are consumed per person on the 7 day trip. So, will 140-168 individual drinks be charged an additional 18% based on their value? $8 beer =$ 9.44 so $1.44 tip added to your card? $10 smoothie = #11.80 so $1.80 added to your SS card and so on? If so, you will pay an additional $210 - $252 in tips for an average $1.50 per drink gratuity. Does this sound about right or am I drunk? LOL

Sorry for the confusion. The 18% gratuity is only on the drink package. You don't pay anything extra for each drink as the gratuity has already been paid when you bought the package!

That I'm not sure about as it's never come up for me. Carnival's website simply says: "Only one drink at a time may be ordered, there is a 5 minute wait time between orders and sharing is not permitted." So it doesn't differentiate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

There might be some sort of fine print about a party traveling together, but the Carnival website says simply: "Each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program." Since you are in different cabins, you might be able to get by without having to purchase.

Many people get their cards before boarding. If not, it will be at your cabin waiting on you. Simply head to your cabin and grab it before you get a drink.

You only need to drink 6 alcohol a day to break even. I've only hit my limit once and that's because I was doing shots with friends one night. The sodas, milkshakes, coffee and stuff aren't limited. You can have a breakfast cocktail like a bloody Mary or mermosa and whatever. You really don't have to get drunk.

Cruzely.com I’ve only been on 2 cruises in the past. The first one I bought the Cheers program and I clearly remember being charged for 7 days for a 7 day cruise. But when boarding on day one I found out that since port is in Galveston the Cheers program didn’t start till day two. So why was I charged for 7 days when day 1 it can’t be activated so that means day 7 would be the day we get off the ship when the bars are not open and it isn’t a full day. Everyone is busy getting off the ship. I asked my friend why are we being charged for 7 days and he just responded I guess that’s just the way it works. The second time I cruised I didn’t purchase it as I didn’t want to get charged for 7 days when day one can’t be activated till day two. Thinking of a cruise in 2020 DEPARTING from Galveston TX so if I try to pay online and it is trying to charge me for 7 days when it can’t be activated till day two and you said “the day you get off the ship isn’t included” then what would be the reasoning there for still being charged for 7 days?

Two questions re our upcoming 28-day Island Princess Tahiti cruise: 1) There's I think a fifteen dollar dining room corkage fee for wine we bring onboard. Can we present them with a jumbo two-liter Costco cab and only take a single corkage hit? 2) I ain't paying for a soda card but I loves me some club soda. Can I bring aboard the small CO2 canisters required for my SodaStream club soda dispenser?

Are you alluding to Half Moon Cay ? If so, then no the cheers package doesnt apply while on their private island. Makes no sense since everyone working on the island is employed by Carnival but all alcohol is on you when off ship. However, they do have a buffet thats no cost while on Half Moon.
