Shoe shine boy, Augustine, is 14 yrs old and has been a shoe shiner for 1 year now. He walks the downtown square of Cancun to offer to shoe shine, shoe polish, or clean anyones shoe, whether they are a male or female -- doesn't matter what shoe one is wearing.

Whatever you think of a 14 year old working the streets to shoe shine, I am just documenting it. Of course, I would rather he could just be a kid. At the same time, we can admire the shoe shine skills he has.
Originally from Chiapas, his father is also a professional shoe shiner, and so the profession stays in the family. He and his father like the KZbin videos we made.

Vid made me cry as it reminded when my brother used to shine shoes for a living a no been able to attend elementary school. One takes life as it comes and overcome whatever challenges it throws at you. When I go back to my native country, I give these kids a healthy tip regardless of the job outcome. This gentleman was a very pleasant and happy customer. If you ever visit a third world country, please never ask people to reduce the price or try to penny pinche as life is rough out there.
