Oh my goodness Mrs M you have all been through the mill, as they say. That was some journey and poor Zephyr, but what an obedient dog. You kept a clear head and just soldiered on. Pure teamwork! How disgusting that people are throwing trollies and other things in the canals. It must be a nightmare for you coming up against these things. After all that, you still managed to give us a wee history lesson and take us on a lovely nature ramble, complete with gentle background music - All making your day and ours worthwhile. What a eventful week u have had but hopefully all's well now😊. What a very obedient dog zephyr was whilst she was on the toll path, her constant glare looking at u has u were trying to get close for her. What a spring life vlog this week with flowers and buds appearing and of course the jumping lambs, it makes u realise winter is on its way out ( hopefully ). That was dramatic! I was on edge & really worried for Zeph when you couldn't get in to the side. Could you /mr.M. possibly get a very small light outboard engine, eg 4hp or up to 10h.p. & create some mounting places all around the narrowboat , eg one on the bow, one stern, & 2 each side, just for emergency/auxillary maneuverability. It would be very straightforward to set up, not take up much room & be very useful in case of engine trouble , or not being able to get into the side eg .? You are such a beautiful poet & photographer/ artist! Your content never fails to make my eyes water & heart flutter.

RE: the outboard motor idea: I would imagine that your typical small outboard motor might be too short for mounting on certain places on your narrowboat, but you can get outboard motors with extra long prophafts. A modern small one would be light & portable & easy to set up if needed & you had an appropriate place to install a bracket or steel edge to clamp the engine unto. You would only need a very small engine eg 4 to 10 H.P. , for backup/ emergency use, sort of along the lines of how an ocean going yacht with inbuilt diesel engine, would often also have a small outboard, for similar backup & emergency use.

Debdale lock is my most favorite lock on any of the canals. Carved from the rock by picks and shovels is exemplifies the work that went into creating the system. It is also amazingly beautiful. We spent half a day at Kidderminster, walking to the historic railway station and eating fish and chips on the way back to the boat. The chippy was called ,"Our Plaice." Clever. My photos of that day remind me of a wonderful day on the canal.

I love watching your vlogs your art and your poetry the nature walks with the beautiful Zeph really do fill my soul ,I am 75 and can no longer walk the canal banks of my home village of Rufford on the Leeds Liverpool or the River Douglas where I played for so many hours as a child but you bring it all back to me ,I watch them over and over until the next one comes out . Accidents can happen so quickly. I would be very nervous if my dog was running freely while on the boat. It's good you have an intelligent one. We used a slow cooker for our food while we were cruising. We seldom used gas.

Hi guys, I’m surprised that when you got a foul prop with nowhere to more easily, you didn’t tow Alice to the armco a few yards further down the canal. In extremis you can tow. All you need is one of you on bow rope, one on stern rope and a long pole to keep you off the bank. Keep it simple!!! John

Your garden that sails along is a little spring on board. This channel is a nice route with the cliffs to sail. Still dangerous every time gas leak. Zephyr listens well, despite the mistake of jumping off board. Beautiful the new life in spring, just like your vlog is a great poem.

Bunter Pebble sandstone I think it is. Very hard. Also found up this canal just past Autherley. There, It used to be called Airport narrows and is fun to navigate. Something tells me the same rock is on the Trent and Mersey around Armitage.

Zephyr is a lovely and very clever dog and just mistakenly disembarked as she thought that you were about to also, but she did exactly what you asked of her, bless her.
