This is the issue with PSA...they grade soooo many cards that you know the new graders are the ones grading these bulk orders and you know when someone is new they are going to skew more conservative. Absolutely rough one here!

You’re exactly right. Ugh. This order had new inexperienced grader written all over it. You can tell because they error on the side of caution on the cards they’re unfamiliar with and don’t know how to tell the centering on :(

How do you choose cards to buy and grade?
@littlevictoriessportscards1974 ай бұрын
I look for popular sets that sell well, popular players, the goats, nicely designed inserts, refractor parallels, fan favorites, cards that have low pops 👍 And always take the time to check the comps for the cards you’re submitting in various grades…this will help you decide whether it’s financially responsible to submit the card. Good luck, and I appreciate you watching 🤙 LV

@@littlevictoriessportscards197 They don't. I've had small orders that were crushed in NJ and a friend went 5/65. Only way you're avoiding new graders is if you include cards they won't hand off to them like a high grade '80 Topps Henderson. Otherwise, your odds are the same.
@ericjohnson80623 ай бұрын
Just landed here. I have had the same experience attempting to grade older base. For example, I subbed like 14 1994, 1995, and 1997 Score low-end parallels. 9s across the board, with one gem. It's just not worth the risk unless grading something of value. I swear PSA judges 90s paper cards differently - aka more harshly - than ultra modern.
@littlevictoriessportscards1973 ай бұрын
Definitely agree, and thanks for finding my channel 🙌 Until the grading fees start dropping to around $12 with PSA, it’s just not worth sending in low-end 80’s and 90’s cards. Which is sad, cuz that’s what I really enjoy grading from a nostalgia standpoint. They’re definitely tough on older paper cards right now :( Happy collecting and grading! 🤞 LV

you are exactly right when it comes to lower end cards being undergraded. It just isn't financially feasible to crack and resubmit...it really sucks when you get a tight grader, but I guess it is further proof to not send in more than 50 cards in an order?

Exactly. I broke that rule I’ve always had…don’t submit more than 75 cards per order :( I think I got overly confident because things had been consistent and good grades. But it’s because I kept the orders smaller. I’ll never submit over 75 cards per again 😅

I have had the same issues ! Larger orders tend to get graded harder.. add that to bad grader or a bad day grader and the whole order is ruined. Whelp, ummm... I'm a Field of Dreams is #1 guy, and Sandlot is awesome. Ironically both feature James Earl Jones as I realize while typing haha. I think we're at a strange crossroads with 1990's cards. Only people with first-hand experience ripping this stuff, buying and selling it know the sets and their quirks. These comments summed it up I think. I do have another thing I noticed on some of my cards though. I did a VR response but won't post unless you want me to. About 10 minutes long and I will post it "subscriber exclusive" long enough for you to view it. I'll take it down after I see you respond to it. I'll never make the mistake of sending 1980's Fleer and Donruss with my 1980's Topps anymore because it seems like they don't take into consideration the differences in the card stocks anymore. Thanks for the great video once again! Don't be discouraged by not having an all sunny positive vid. Sadly people need to see these kinds of videos for things to change. 8-10 grades can be a very fine line. This is why someone with your experience can make a living at it, but you take all the risk. What I disagree with is PSA takes no risk takes 15$ from you and smiles with "come again" reply. All the while having relationships with business that prosper from thier grades. 4 sharp corners was mentioned, obviously Goldin was tied with them and I actually see there is a PSA store on ebay, if I'm not mistaken. The problem I see is that PSA has become the standard and people have come to care more about the label on the slab more than what's in the slab. I get that sentence is a bit confusing but what I mean is what just happened in this video. You have 10's in those slabs but the label says 7,8,9. Didn't hurt PSA at all though. Still got 15$ plus per. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my brain around the "it is what it is" thing. If I pay for a service anywhere else and am not satisfied I can't think of too many situations where it can't be rectified but PSA doesn't even tell people why they got what they got. I'll tell you why because it's not good business for billionairs. Take those 1990 Hoop Jordan's. 68k card pop. Doing rough math in my head so forgive slight variances. 7600 gems. So avg 12% or so. Jordan's run 8% gem on the all star and a laughable 4% on his main card out of 18k+ submissions. I get as you look at a world popular figure people with zero experience may submit a card but still. PSA throws a bone to the Jordan "play ground" and checklist in the set by giving 20+% and 13% gem rates respectively. The other top $ card Mark Jackson also heavily regulated and oddly it looks like it's pretty tuff to gem Scotty Pippen. I don't know if I helped with my mini rant or wasted time but as someone who is very untrusting of big biz. The whole PSA thing smells funky. I wish you the best in your future endeavors and enjoy watching as you do bring positivity to the hobby even when faced with adversity. Hoping some can still rub off on someone who lost it long ago, lol.

@@nextplanet2960 yeah, I always try to be as transparent as possible, always showing the bad too. And trust me, I completely understand your position and thoughts about all of this. We are the ones taking all the risks, that's why I really want a way for PSA to be held accountable some how. At least give us grader notes. $15-20 a card isn't cheap...the least they could do would be to give us quick notes. Also, I love the data on the 1990's hoops cards. I'm a numbers guy and find it very interesting. Trust me, I wish my business wasn't so heavily dependent on PSA. But I gotta feed the family and the resale is too great, and I feel like I'm good at it. I just need PSA to be fairly consistent and honest. Thanks for the thoughtful/smart comment. LV

@littlevictoriessportscards197 Hey after I thought about it a bit. I wondered why PSA has become the hobby standard for grading. I mean back in the day Beckett monthly was the thing and before that it was a price guide book you borrowed at the library to see what you might have. Every shop owner became a card grader if you wanted to sell cards. There were no slabs. I mean what made PSA so wonderful. I never see videos on Beckett or SGC horror stories, well SGC is prob gonna go down the toilet now. Atleast Beckett gives 4 grades right on the card. Makes it very difficult to justify why you gave a card a 7 instead of a 9. I have never submitted a card. As I have said before I have too many cards. I would like my hobby to fund my hobby instead of work lol, but anything pre year 2000 is very sketchy to me. I understand as a business you sometimes have to supply the need/want of the customer but a Beckett 9 has to be better than a PSA 8. I know you do crackouts and it's not very cost effective on 100$ or less cards but it would be interesting to see what Beckett thinks of some of those grades. Atleast you may find out why by the 4 grading points. At the end of the day it's about getting the majority to see that it's a better value/product. You said that many of those 90 hoops were collections you purchased. Would be interesting to see what the other high end stars grade. Larry Bird, Magic and the Hardayway rookie. Seems that the easiest 10 is the Bird if you believe PSA cares about pop counts. I think it's pretty difficult to say they don't because purchasers sure do (mostly). I've been looking at pop counts while writing this and maybe my thoughts are skewed but It's definitely easy to determine that as the value of a card rises the gem % greatly decreases. I was checking out 89 upper deck baseball Jr which accounts for over 1/2 of the submissions 107k x15$+ (that's alot of dough) is not even 4% gem. The Smoltz almost 40% gem, the Sheffield close to 30% gem and the Big Unit just a smidgen over 15% gem. Of the 199k 1989 upper deck graded these 5 cards are roughly 159k of those submissions. If those cards don't have value people don't send in, well not the masses, Jr hovering around 1800-2k$ keeps 1989 upper deck interesting. If that price goes down the subs go down imo. Far be it from me to advise you because I greatly respect your practices and knowledge of the hobby but if and when I hope to sell cards I will be checking pop counts and averages before I submit. Atleast market moving cards if you know what I mean. Would love to chat for hours on the subject. Thank you.

Dang! What a bad grader, based on how many cards he put in min size just proves how lazy he was. I recently started to make youtube videos and I would love for you to check them out LV. Thanks.

@@littlevictoriessportscards197 yeah I agree with that! I like SGC for the most part it’s within my price range especially when they do specials like they have been doing with basketball

This is the new PSA I’m afraid. It wasnt this bad until recently so I’m pausing any more bulk subs until they can get it sorted. Hopefully by next year.

Smart 👌 Pause on the big orders. Graders are a bit tight right now

You gotta quit grading so much base. Too risky for not much upside.
@littlevictoriessportscards1974 ай бұрын
The base are pretty much free from my old collections, and I grade the cards where the value in a mint 9 would at least be the grading cost, and then if they hit Gem Mint 10 it’s all gravy. I’m gonna stick with this strategy 🙌 thanks for watching

I had an order we’re only 10 out 54 gemed , and I never went over the cards more then ever looking for any defects. Sent about 10 90 upper deck football cards fresh out of a box I bought and opened , perfectly centered and the best was a 9 , one perfect card they gave a 6 , but a 1985 hulk hogan card in a shoe box for 30 years with rounded corners got a seven. A Will Levis card that was a 8 that I cracked out got a 10 this time. I Will never ever send junk wax ever again. If these cards I sent weren’t 10’s, no junk wax cards should get 10’s
@littlevictoriessportscards1974 ай бұрын
Junk wax is so tough to grade right now, cuz these new graders don’t know how to grade them :( Sounds like you got an inexperienced grader too. I wish you best of luck next time 🤞
