I feel like we had the exact same listening experience 😂 My favourite was All The Love but when I listened for the 2nd time I realised I was disappointed there was no bridge. I love songs like Double Rainbow where the bridge elevates the song. "Every step I take, I'm keeping you in miiiind" is one of the highlights of the PRISM album. 143 is sorely lacking bridges. And good hooks. But yeah, of the bunch, All The Love, Nirvana and Wonder are ok.

To me Witness & Smile are her best albums. 143 I’m not sure where it lands in my rankings of her albums. So I’m still listening to see how I feel. I do think it’s unfortunate that she did different and people paid it dust and constantly want teenage dream again when that’s so boring and uninspired to want that again. I do think nostalgia often robs people from appreciating the new.

It’s insane bc she actually has a few great songs that don’t have dr luke on the credits. Especially Never really over which was pretty well received, but since it didn’t chart, i guess she wanted to go back to her teenage dream producer, but man did he completely fumble the bag on this one. idk but it seems like she may just be out of touch. that's how I felt after I saw her witness project with her living in a house being constantly recorded & live streamed. things she said and did were odd. and I guess if anybody advised her not to she didn't listen for some reason. it's not a smart business decision in the current climate (it's obviously morally reprehensible regardless). @@Luscent

Katy actually gave an interview recently discussing the album. She goes on record stating it was her choice to work with Dr. Luke. She wanted to work with those who played a role in her career success, and Dr. Luke co-wrote almost every single hit song of hers. She wanted to work with him. She chose it. At least she owns up to it.

So she chose to work with Dr. Luke but not with Bonnie Mckee? Wow. What was she thinking? Maybe Bonnie's lyrics can be a little silly but that's what makes some of Katy's old songs special, they were really funny.

i do agree with your take on this album, for someone who's arguably dealing with one of the most anticipated comebacks and has a remarkable pop track record this just feels so lacklustre. she was one of the most influential artists of the 2010s in pop and now we get a miserable attempt of trying to weave her way into modern music... put this next to the work of the other pop girls of this year and you'd think this was the debut project of an unoriginal industry plant

hi dan! i'm a new follower but love your channel. i've been a katy fan for forever- i was obsessed with one of the boys when it came out in 2008 and i was lucky to see her in 2011 for her california dreams tour which GIRLLLL was such an era, omg you just had to be there. so as a longtime fan, and watching her through her last couple of let-down album releases, I was hoping this would be her comeback. so my god ,143 was a disappointment. couldn't believe the choice to work with dr. luke. the whole album feels flat, dull, and outdated like you said. and kind of thrown together? to me, it feels like katy lost the pulse on pop culture she once had and isn't sure what the listeners want anymore. not a terrible album, just misses the mark and is forgettable.

I just find it really interesting that, as he said, people want her to be silly, but when she IS, people (like him in the video) think is cringe. I think people are trying to make her conform into what’s mainstream nowadays and ignoring what makes her Katy Perry. If you can’t separate what Katy is as an artist from what you expect her to be, you shouldn’t be judging her work.

It's not just being silly but having a sense of humour and being smart with it which she had done so well in the past. And Katy herself has put this expectation on her - she's the one who's gone back to Dr Luke because she's trying to recapture her old sound in an attempt to get a hit and what were saying is actually it's not him that gave you those hits it was your frivolous fun loving nature and sense of humour that did that

Thank you for not completely tearing this down. I like all the ones you like except Artificial. I don't think they sound unfinished. I think they just wanted to follow the short track trend. Sorry but Katy has no contractual obligations to make albums with Dr. Luke or with his name. Her psst two records Witness and Smile were not produced by him and do not credit him. This is just a selfish move and a middle finger to all the women in the industry suffering from the patriarchal power imbalance and abuse from well connected men.

Well, we can agree to disagree. This is what she chose to do and is very refined and intentional. She is not Chappell, she is not Sabrina, she IS Katy Perry and she will do Katy Perry music. You can’t listen to an album of hers expecting to hear “Espresso”. Also, from the moment you said Taylor is a lyricist I knew something was off. She has great songs, but most of her songs are cringier than Katy’s, so I don’t get your pointing criticizing 143. Any album is not for everyone. Maybe time will let you separate the body of work from your pre conceived opinions. 🫶
