Been following you for a while now. I have been building pc's for decades. My first build was back in the Pentium days where I had to literally scrap other computers to get parts and I was buying memory by the MEG not GIG. Quake II was the FPS of the day when I was going with dual Diamond Monster cards for Open GL acceleration. Getting ready to build my next and probably last rig as my FPS days are pretty much behind me, at 56 my reflexes are not what they used to be, but keep on putting out the best building content on the net...

I actually still play 1440p even on my 4080 super rig. I know technically speaking it's a 4K card but I have always chosen performance over image quality. 1440p feels like the sweet spot to me in terms of image quality and performance.

For gaming, it really doesn't matter. The gains are so little in drives, just grab the cheapest 1. Linus did a test and no one could tell the difference. In fact, everyone thought the sata drive was the fastest. 😂 Once you start video editing or moving files, that's when it pays to get a better drive. But as long as you have at least a sata ssd, you're fine. No need to spend any more. You literally cannot tell.
@benknapp3787

@firghteningtruth7173 1,800mb/sec for $105 or 7,400mb/sec for $120. That's a no brainer. Plenty of people move games around and do more than just gaming. That's a corner I wouldn't cut to save $15.

@@benknapp3787 I'm sorry, what is the title of this video? 🤣 Moving a game around? Bro, most people just uninstall. Then reinstall. Which is gonna be limited by your internet connection or drive speed. (Disk or thumb) Not the speed of your hard drive. (Ssd in this instance) As I said, if you use the pc for other things, fine, I guess... But booting up and logging into a game, all the experts on linus tech tips that they asked thought the sata drive was faster. If a bootup time is 1.5 seconds. And you half that. Does anyone care? For 20 dollars?🤣
@firghteningtruth7173
@firghteningtruth7173 6 ай бұрын
@@benknapp3787 you could put that 20 dollars into better ram, more space, better peripherals, a slightly better proc, perhaps a little better used gpu? Or another 20 gets you to a solid 5-10 fps better new card. All options are better than yours. For gaming.

If it ever bugs me I can drop to 1080 and upscale it. My eyes not trained so I can’t tell between native and upscaled 1440p anyway. Anyways I just wanted to update the man who helped make my inner child happy. Thanks, Jason. I’ll definitely recommend you to anyone

Amazing video as always . Here are some tips for the European folks out there . In Europe you can get RX 6800 for about 100 euros less than 7700XT. Absolute nobrainer for same performance and more VRAM . Either get USED 6800XT which is like 300 euros ( 340 dollars ) or just buy 7900XT. In the current market climate in EU . I just got 5800X because it was on sale 20 dollars more than 5600. 2cores for 20 dollars what a deal . ( You are basically getting justa bit slower 7600 ryzen , with higher TDP , for 200 euros less due to B650 and DDR5 still being overpriced in Europe ) . You can literally find also used 12700KF with boards for the price of 7600 which is how bad it is here.

Great board, make sure to update the bios to the latest (non-beta) version. IMO I like the Tomahawk a bit better due to the higher quality audio codec, but that's a very very minor point and you can't go wrong with either, especially if you won't be using the onboard audio.

🙂 the TOMA, i checked and this has M Flash, im pretty sure u can update the bios without a cpu, so update the bios to the most recent and then ur cpu should boot. The board has TWO 8pin plugs for the CPU, normally u only need to plug in one, but if u want to plug in the second 8pin plug then buy a better more expensive power supply, usually u want to look at the 750 watts psu or better but make sure u check the specs because only some models have the two 8pin cpu plugs, double check, and of course double check your cpu is on the motherboard support list, dont assume anything. Trust But Verify.

I assume u r on Windows 11 PRO. Now if ur itching to upgrade then what I would do is purchase an additional monitor or maybe two more mointors. Set them all up on monitor arms and free up desk space. With the additional monitors then YES I could see the reason to pickup a faster video card with alot more VRAM, but rite now I would still use that video card. Hope that helps. @@MrSamadolfo Hello there. Thanks for your reply. No this is not my first PC and I have been playing games for a long time but never had the money to spend. My first build was a Sapphire HD 7750, then a 1050Ti followed by an RTX 2060. I have been using the RTX 2060 with i7 9700 since 2019. Now I want to build a new one and since Nvidia is done with their Ti and Super releases, I am thinking of building one now. My question is 4070 Super is a good card buy paying EU 750 here in Ireland for only 12 gb VRAM is not future proof. So I wanted to get a 4070 Ti Super. I also am having doubts on whether to get the 7800x3D or 14700K. I am a researcher and will play games and run Matlab and Python codes so I think the 7800x3D is enough for that. The extra cores on 14700K is beneficial but it runs hotter and consumes way more power than the 7800X3D. Any suggestions on the CPU would be really helpful. Also the prices here in Ireland are so high and most GPUs are not available.
@MrSamadolfo
@MrSamadolfo 6 ай бұрын
@@deeper1993 OK I see where ur coming from, I have a bus powered 7750 in my stash. And I still use my buspowered 1050ti to test motherboards with. OK so im thinking u want to treat urself to something nice. Then this is easy. U get the 4070 ti Super only because its the cheapest 16GB video card. And as far as cpu motherboard ram thats easy too. I assume this is mission critical and it has to work because ur on an island and in the wilderness? Then theres only one choice: Intel 1700, right now AM5 is sketchy and theres way too many complaints online about bios updates patches and ram instability or the motherboard got bricked due to an update. I imagine you don't want to be messing with any of that? I would go either i9-13600K or i9-14700k. If ur ok with flashing the bios then pickup a cheaper Z690 DDR5 board and update the bios but make sure its a motherboard that supports bios updating without cpu. Or pay a little more and get a Z790 but u mite still have to flash the bios as well without a cpu. In any case make sure the board updates without a cpu. TWO RAM STICKS (32+32) 64GB DDR5 6000mhz minimum speed but faster would be better, to go faster u have to research which board and ram sticks go well together. 360mm Water cooler. For most tasks including gaming the i9 wont get any hotter or work any harder than the i7. Update the bios and set the bios to default, run ur games and see how the temps are, if its too high then research ur motherboard bios and find out how to set the bios to intel defaults which are more conservative, save, restart, test ur games, intel defaults should be fine, if u want to get even more fancy theres guides for bios settings for the popular mother boards to undervolt underclock. I would lean towards MSI boards and ASUS a very close second. Hope that helps.

Great video yet again. I built a computer about a year and a half ago (based off watching tons of your videos). First and only build thus far and I think it may be time for some upgrading. Running a ryzen 5 5600, 6700xt, 16gb ram, 1Tb ssd, on 750w power supply. What would be the best way to upgrade this without ripping the whole thing apart and building a whole new computer? I run triple 1440p monitors mostly for racing games which gives me about 55-80 fps depending on the title at mid graphics settings. When I use it for FPS games it still is a great build (using only a single monitor) but looking to achieve higher graphics settings and fps for racing titles.

if ur itching to do something to it then I would focus on replacing the cpu with a ryzen 7 3d chip or ryzen 9 something if u just like cores and threads or just for fun. The video card upgrade is a bag of worms u got so many choices so I dont know about that maybe whatever u like i guess. And that 16gb of ram is triggering me. If u have four ram slots then take a pic of ur ram sticks and purchase two more identical sticks and bring that board up to 32gb. And step up to Windows 11 of course. And update ur bios. Looks like my Comment didnt post. Question on the $1500 build for the GPU Amazon link. The Sapphire Pulse AMD RX 7900XT is only $522.00 while the others on Amazon are over $700. Even on Newegg its $699.99. Would ya'll trust this and buy it? It looks like it is being sold by the Sapphire store too. Seems like a great deal -37% off!

I see what you're seeing but it's not being sold by the Sapphire Store. It says sold by libing10. It's most likely a scam and I wouldn't trust it. It's been an issue before with Sapphire GPUs.

Yeah no, the 7900xt is not a 4k card in Helldivers 2. Even in the training zone I was only getting around 50-60fps at most. Which is fine, but it's a sign of games to come that will struggle with that card. Keep in mind I keep frame gen off (if HD2 even has FSR, idk), so that's part of why.

I literally play it every day at 4k 144hz with my 7900XT. If you are having issues try the following - In the Radeon driver click gaming then graphics and turn off "Boost". That seems to cause issues in a number of shooters so I turn it off for everything anyway. And in Helldivers under the graphic settings turn off space exclusion (also something I recommend to everyone).

I got a little confused because your first $650 build didn't show a 1080p monitor to go with it. Then I realised it's a 1440p build lol. Amazing a 650 USD build can be 1440p. I've considering GPUs to buy. I already have a 11400F with a rx480 4gb. So was looking at GPU prices in Australia. Turns out the 7700xt is only about 50 USD more expensive then a 7600xt. Where the 7800xt is way more money then a 7600xt. I plan on buying a new monitor and was going to buy a 1080p 144hz+ monitor. Both of my current monitors are 1080p 60hz TN panel, so want to replace them. Sadly the site I buy from doesn't have the same 1440p monitors you recommended. Think I will go check out your last monitor advice video.

What site do you use? If it's a site available on PC Part Picker I can try and find a good Monitor for you. Also yes the 7700XT should be good for 1440p.

@@kelley09162 I've been using PC casegear which should be on pcpartpicker, I'm also open to using other sites if their better for monitors. I currently don't have a budget as I'm going to sell my car and see what I get for it. But it should get me more than 2k. Then I will look at what my budget is for a monitor. But I do feel that going under 1440p would be a mistake and I'm interested in 144hz to 180hz, IPS flat panel, 27 inch, adjustable height. I'm going to be buying a AMD GPU so adaptive sync is fine. I don't know if Gsync works with AMD GPU. I want the option of both display port and hdmi. Thanks for any advice, it's appreciated.

Is the AM4 socket still good to build in 2024 for the 900$ build rather than going for AM5? im currently contemplating between this 2 socket.
@MrSamadolfo
@MrSamadolfo 6 ай бұрын
i would stick with AM4, am5 is kinda sketchy due to ddr5, theres all kinds of compalints online about bios update breaking stuff, if u have spare pcs and spare backups to hold u over if ur system breaks then u can take a chance on am5, but if u have a mission critical scenario that it 'has to work' then stick with ddr4 motherboards, i have both so i dont care if a board breaks but not everybody has backup pc's

Hey Jason. I bought on an offer a upgrade kit formed by ryzen 5 5600g, 32 gb ram and a Gigabyte Motherboard to revive an older pc, that has a Seasonic 620 watt psu from 2014. My question to you is this: I want to play at 1440p as i own a 4k Benq Monitor. In my country there is only a 20 dollar difference between the 16 gig RTX 4060TI and the 7800xt. I don't know what to do. If i buy the Rtx i should be fine with that psu, but if i go with the 7800xt or the cheaper 7700xt, acording to Amd i should have a 750 watt Psu and i should buy another Psu. Do you think i should stay with the Rtx or should i buy the 7700xt/7800xt and upgrade the Psu? Thanks.
@PCBuilderChannel
@PCBuilderChannel 6 ай бұрын
Regardless of which GPU you choose, I would replace the PSU from 2014 as it is way past its age at this point and the PSU is the component that ages the fastest and can cause the worst problems. The Ryzen 5600G is going to struggle to keep up with the 7800 XT, but that would likely give you the most FPS especially if you have a 4K gaming monitor (I would turn up the resolution to 4K as that will give you the smallest CPU bottleneck). Hope that helps.

🙂 Broh, theres something ur not asking because maybe u don't know. Not all monitors will display the bios screen with an RX card. Whereas if u go Invidia u are almost garanteed support on any monitor and any tv anywhere in the world. Go research ur monitor and make sure that u can see the bios screen with RX cause if u can't then u have to consider replacing the monitor as well if u go RX or maybe u have another monitor in the house that is compatible? As for that power supply if its still working then maybe keep it for a spare pc and find it an older motherboard like maybe an i7 4790 or something like that but don't be using that power supply for ur new computer but for something old it mite be OK, Seasonic is pretty decent. So u go two things to check: Monitor compatiblity with RX and ur going to need a new power supply no matter what card.
