when I was in my 20s I was able to keep up with rev 144 summits on my 2004 skidoo rev 121x2 track. now I got gen4 154x2.5 and everyone looked at me like i'm riding short track and surprised that i'm able to keep up. most of my buddies have 165x3 gen4

For my first sled,should I just get the one I want (freeride 146 turbo or not) or just something like a Polaris Indy 600/800? Would probably be riding in the pocono mts. Or old forge tug hill area. Not Revy kinda hills at first. I went riding last year once and I liked it enough that I sat in the class and got my certificate. I take care of my equipment and don’t want to be needing to upgrade in a year or two. Would rather have to grow into something that’s a little more than I need.Take care of yourself and stay safe.🍻🌲

What's the suspension set up and specs on the 146? Heading West in a month on a BCXRS 146x2" just trying to get an idea of how to get it set up prior to getting there.
@Icutmetal4 жыл бұрын
Look at Monster or HyGear website for initial setting recommendations, then adjust from there. Asking someone on KZbin with a completely different machine; along with a presumably different weight and riding ability, style, and setup, will be futile.

As a beginner, would you choose a 154/155 or a 163/165?
@davespargo59444 жыл бұрын
Hey Gabe, if you don't mind me jumping in on this question of yours, I'll try to give you a little insight. Until the winter of 18/19, i had not been on a sled since the 70's. They have come a long way from what I remember. I picked up a used Doo,154, 600 ACE, 2 seater. A 60 hp brick, to say the least at 536#'s dry weight, but I had 2,000 miles of fun with it that first winter. I needed to upgrade once I saw that I was gonna have some fun on the mountain ( I live in Grand Lake, Colorado at 8,366' elevation, so I have a mtn range in my back yard). When looking for a sled, I remember Chris Burandt had said that the 163 Poo was "very forgiving". That caught my attention. In june of 2019, I came across a 2019, Pro RMK 850, 163x3 that had been built by the guys at VOHK. More sled than I'd ever need (i'm 58), but the price was right and I made the deal happen. Glad I did. My style of riding is a bit laid back off trail, exploring single track, and pounding deep meadows with some light tree action. Perfect machine for me. This past summer of 2020, I picked up a 2018, Pro RMK 800, 155x2.6 so the mrs could go out with me. I wondered if my inexperienced ass would even be able to see a difference. WOW. More difference than I ever expected. The thing (155) seemed to want to trench down if I looked at it wrong, and the nose felt like it wanted to dive in the turns. Nothing like the 163. Stuck, buried, trenched to hell, I was at a loss. I reached out to Chris Burandt to see what his thoughts were, if maybe it was shock adjustment, etc. His reply was "You just described the difference between a 155 vs 163. You need to ride the 155 more aggressively". So, it was operator error that was the problem. I took his advise and spent a bit more time on the 155. Yep, he was right. Now for the fun part, I took what I learned on the 155 and applied it to the 163 the other day and Holy Shit. That 163 became a whole new machine. Both have their respective places. The 163/165 will treat you right and let you lay back more to take it easy, but will also lead the way on a nasty day. The 154/155 would be great if you are looking to be a more aggressive rider thru the day. Sorry for the length, but I hope this (my) perspective helps.

@@davespargo5944 you are a gem, thank you. I think I'll probably start off on a 165 and maybe move to a 154 as I get more experience.
