Another thing you can exploit is recovering all your cooldowns between enemy waves. Any time you clear out an enemy wave, put everyone on overwatch and just end your turn again and again. This will recharge all your cooldowns. Great for gaining back all your abilities, healing team members and replenishing grenades. Enemies seem limited so many times new waves wont appear while you end turns.

Pistol can also give a better chance of a downed opponent, just make sure you are going to take the enemy out.

Grenades are fun. I found out that going with scouts commando skills mixed with UIR armor ( whole set ) turned the cooldown of throw grenade skill to 1. Which means that my scout can throw a frag grenade/stim grenade EVERY turn.

Loved playing this on pc , and I’m now replaying it on Xbox they added jack the robot the 5th character to your squad it’s good! I hope they do another one setup more like xcom with base building and what not better character abilities but if you like xcom please support this game so we get a 2nd game done better!

I am just getting around to playing this on my Series X. I love Gears of War and Xcom so I figure this should be great. Before I get too involved I want some tips on how all of this works. Addendum- I'm very happy a different developer tackled this game. Even though Hivebusters was absolutely fantastic Gears IV and V were not great from a story perspective. I miss Cliffy B and company.

Gears tactics re arranges the top down squad gameplay by essentially boiling down the combat turns into managing initiative and opportunity attacks. Adding an extra dimensional layer to the game. So far I’m enjoying it

Love the game so far. Good to know overwatch shots are governed by AP remaining. I kept reloading thinking it was based on how much ammo in my weapon. Wasted alot of turns reloading if thats the case.

#15 should be otherway around. If you are not taking your heroes everywhere when is possible, then they will not grow up and you will not get the skills enough to beat the bosses. I was doing this and still the available newbees where same level or even better than my heroes!

There is a skill that gives you an action point back for using either the chainsaw or the bayonet super useful for enemies downed out in the open as it gives you an ap point to move back into cover or shoot

I feel like people massively overrate overwatch in this game... Playing aggressively is both more satisfying and more effective in most scenarios. Overwatch is only really worth it when the enemy is in good cover and you don't have a way to flush them out (e.g a grenade or the vanguard's intimidate skill), otherwise you're just trading targetted shots for shots you can't judge or control. When one wretch eats two or three overwatch charges because of high evasion, or a boomer knocks everyone out of overwatch with a grenade, those actions are wasted.

the best tip i learned is you can close e hole by planting grenade in its position before it opens so every enemy that supposed to come out will die. this saved my corpser battle in insane diff

Great game. They really went over all the issues I had with Xcom and cleaned it all up. Xcom 2 was real glitchy for me when I played it on Xbox One with massive loading times, encouraged save scumming (no checkpoints I believe), and I didnt like having to manage the hub inbetween combat or fail the entire game later on. The hit percentages seem way more accurate and havent come across any glithces. Loads super fast on the series X. Feels almost like a direct copy of Xcom 2 but with tons of improvements and its own unique style. The execution system really adds to the pacing as you can turn battles around by executing downed enemies and gaining extra turns for your team.

I never played xcom games though I’ve always really wanted to. I didn’t used to like tactical games growing up, I liked a couple like final fantasy tactics (only the advanced version) and suikoden during the war parts, however, I started playing wasteland 3 and am loving it, so as a gears fan I figured I’d check this game as soon as it was finally released on game pass a few days ago and I’m LOVING it! It’s really awesome. I think it would be really cool if it had exploration and rpg like elements similar to wasteland 3, it would be cool in a gears setting.‘however, the game is great as it is. Should I check out xcom? I’ve always thought it looked cool, if I were to play one which one should I play to start it off? Sorry for the long comment btw

@@CenturianEagle Awesome. Wasteland 3, nice, have to look into that. When I was around 13 in '93 my friend started playing some RPG and strategy games like Final Fantasy 3 and Dark Wizard for Sega CD. I thought they looked extremely boring and wanted to play some fighting/action games. Eventually I gave in and RPGs became one of my favorite genres to play, especially turn based strategy games. If you are enjoying this then you will love Xcom. This game basically rips Xcom off near identically but makes alot of improvements. Xcom 2 is much more stable now on the Xbox One. When it first came out it was a glitchy mess but I still got enjoyment from it. I would highly reccomend Xcom 2 and Xcom Enemy Within. Theres an expansion for Enemy Within so you might want to go with that version. Xcom 2 is the better one gameplay wise. Storywise it doesnt matter which you start with. Those games are really not about the story. Both are GREAT. Theres alot of older turn based strategy games that are extremely good too like the Fire Emblem series, Military Madness, Disgaea games, etc. Valkyria Chronicles series is a really unique take on that style that I really enjoyed. Highly reccomend those too. Theres a 4th installment on Xbox One as well. Exploration sounds interesting between combat segments. Dark Wizard did that many years ago. I usually like more combat focused strategy games but that can be cool. You may like the hub sections in the newer Xcom games, since you have to manage alot of different elements and can even lose the game if you dont manage certain things. I was more into the combat sections.

That’s funny about you coming around and liking rpgs, I was like your friends, enjoying rpgs and wondering why my other friends didn’t like them 😆. I was born in 1990, I guess you were born in 1980 based on you being 13 in 93. I grew up on rpgs, I loved final fantasy games and dragon quest games too. Dragon quest 11 is really good and is going to be on gamepass soon if you have gamepass, but that’s just a classic turn based rpg so If were staying on Topic here then yeah you definitely gotta check out wasteland 3 it’s amazing. I will check out xcom 2 when I get the chance, thanks for filling me in on which one to start on and letting me know I don’t gotta worry about story/starting with #1. I played the first fire emblem for gba when I was little, I loved that one actually. I also played this other one for ps1 called vandal hearts. ​@@CenturianEagle Nice. Yea I was getting irritated since he always had them on but then decided to check them out, ha ha. It didnt take long before I got hooked. The SNES RPGS like Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger and Dark Wizard for Sega CD were some of the first RPGs that really hooked me around that time. My first RPG was probably Dragon Warrior for the NES. It came with a subscription to Nintendo Power at the time. I liked it but could barely do anything back then. It was mysterious though. Yes 1980. My first console was the Atari 2600 in 86. It was 8 years old by then but to me it was new. Nice. Dragon Quest 11 looks great. I was going to pick that one up when it drops some in price. I have never really played a mainline Dragon Quest game aside from the original Dragon Warrior. So I wasnt sure yet if I would take to it. Ive been enjoying Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 but those are more Dynasty Warrior style, hack N slash. Once and RPG series hooks me I will gladly pay full price for a new installment though. I will look into Wasteland 3. Hopefully its on console. My gaming PC is strictly set up for emulated games and runs the full history of older games from Wii and down but too weak to run alot of modern games. Was the GBA one you played just called Fire Emblem with no subtitles? If so I beat that one a few years ago on emulation. It was insane because I only levelled up a few characters that I liked and left everyone else weak. The final level was like a brick wall. I had to print out papers on the stats to even formulate a path. Didnt think I would beat it at that point. That was a great game. They are all very similiar. The one on Switch was great too. A little too much town hub for my liking and too easy on default, but I still enjoyed it. Probably worth starting that one on hard for a little resistance. That may be more engaging. Really enjoyed Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle on the Switch. The turn based combat is very enjoyable and pretty challenging. Vandal Hearts, nice. Have seen videos of that game. I really want to dig into those strategy rpgs on older systems. I have so many in progress that I have to clean up my backlog. I keep starting games and have over 70 games in progress on the older systems. Alot of folders since I record, ha ha. The combat in both of the newer Xcom games (the old ones are very different games) is almost identical to Gears Tactics. Gears may even have a few more options to sort through. They are near identical in combat. Youll see Gears really ripped off the combat almost identical but added things into the mix. The execution system is awesome and can really change the pace of a battle. The part where Xcom is more complicated is in the hub world between battles. I did get annoyed at points where I had to restart the entire game because of not managing the hub world properly. Basically you can lose the entire game if you dont keep ontop of certain things. I never understood that hub world very well and still managed to beat those games. I would reccomend reading up a little on the fail conditions of that hub world to make sure you dont let any thing slide for too long. Its easy to want to put money into resources that help in battles and ignore the hub things, but you want to put a certain amount of resources into managing that. You shouldnt need to research it too much to get the general flow of it though. Just dont ignore it when you play. I think you will really enjoy it once you get a feel for that hub portion.

You should be able to throw a frag on top of the upcoming E-hole like you can do in the campaigns so you can close them early without waiting for them to spawn to close it

Everything about the downed team mates and stims on insane are meaningless and ignore all healing abilities. You go down in practically one shot anyways and you never go down. They just die instead. Opt for huge damage instead of healing.

That was a very enjoyable boss for me. I liked the feeling of being almost powerless against that massive Brumac. Slowing picking away at it, then getting sidelaned by some pesky e-hole encounters. First mission that I had some of my team get downed multiple times. Felt really good once completed though.

That arena is really annoying - it's difficult to stop the boss from going into one corner, at which point it's way more difficult to juggle him back and forth. Also, the way the voiceover tells you to focus on the tanks and doesn't mention the guns until after he's shot you twice is misleading - it's way better to destroy the guns first and save yourself 200+ damage per turn...

@@davidmurray3542 the final boss has a similar mechanic you're not going to like, if you destroy the weapon it will respawn. It's manageable until the Boomers show up so make sure Makayla has the aplha and Omega perks, that's how I killed it after two hours, very annoying.

Also, my i7-960 (legacy version from 2010) could play rainbow 6 siege in 2020. so this game, with low settings, would be easy to run without crashes for your i5-6500. What your comment really tells us is that you don't like your cpu and will come up with any excuse/reason to justify upgrading from it.

Rest of the games really fun but after every mission I honestly get upset when I have to promote. 5 main classes and each with 4 subclasses is to much. Support heals and buffs but I have to choose, seems odd. I'd rather 5 classes with 2 sub each is far more reasonable.
