Hermosa was a great place when I lived there in the 70s and early 80s. My first rental was the little house behind 53 Strand. I rented from Ty Pages grandma Mrs. r. I payed 135 a month. Lived at first and strand, Manhattan Ave off of 2nd St. many others over the years. bailed to Leucadia in south San Diego in dec of 84. I was the Maintenace guy in Hermosa for LA county beach dept 73 thru 78. I took care of all the restrooms and planters in hermosa and also the pier when franks bait shop was still out on the end of the pier.

Another memory just came to me and my boyfriend was a surfer so that was fun. We searched a lot of the beaches in California and also he was a fisherman so we used to go sit on the pier and fish. We did that at Manhattan Beach pier in Hermosa a lot and once in a while, we rented a little boat and went out in King Harbor but didn’t go outside to break water and fish And we also fish freshwater lakes up and down the state of California that’s when I was a teenager. We didn’t have any money but boy we sure had a good life when I think about it now it’s the best the beach, the sun, the outdoors the people were fabulous, friendly, specially fisherman and surfers. The surfing crowd,

I use to live in Hermosa Beach in the late 1970”s and early 1980’s. Pier ave and Monterey ave . Loved it . I visited last year and still love it ! I love the strand I love the fact that you can walk skate bicycle it’s family friendly, as well as the local high school kids across country and Running. Also, the beach is just right there. Lots of sand, lots of volleyball sand, courts, which are used to play volleyball and information just a beautiful pier lotta good restaurants good stuff was always my go to for breakfast with friends and family back in the day and after September 1 when all the tourists left we got our beach back and Friends and I used to get on our bikes and ride from Hermosa pier all the way to Marina del Rey for brunch on Sundays and it was so much fun we used to say anybody who lead lived east of PCH was a land lover and that’s where life ended another words only life to the west the PCH was real. It’s a joke, but we all liked it, but also is very cool is that the south Bay beaches are very close to LAX. Yeah growing up in the Southbay was really cool.

So many memories I should write a little book about it Besty’s was a place on the strand between Hermosa in Manhattan Beach Besty’s history was he was a soccer player footballer from England and I guess, retired or put a bar up on the beach anyways we used to go in there all the time and play darts Matter fact, my friends were avid dart players . So much so that they had their darts made specifically for themselves and of course I did to the tungsten and the nickel the weight in your fingers where the darts at I mean, there’s a whole science behind it and that’s where I met friends with, and introduced me to my husband, who asked me to be a dart partner at a charity event for muscular dystrophy, and the rest became history. I remember when the comedy and magic club was built that was the beginning of the 80s and when I visited Hermosa Beach last June I took pictures of it it’s still the same it’s still there and it still looks exactly the same I was so pleased because when I moved away in 1987 Ohio, my fear was that Hermosa Beach and parts of Manhattan. We’re going to turn into Century City and just become so expensive that the local people wouldn’t be able to live there anymore forward it to my surprise it looks exactly the same as when I left in the mid 80s so I am really pleased they didn’t allow, the beach area to become commercialized.
