Good insights but there's also other factors in my opinion. Most Indian families don't have the kind of disposable income to spend money on Volkswagen, Skoda, Jeep etc. Any person having enough income to upgrade from a two wheeler to a four wheeler would want something within 5-6 lakhs budget where Maruti will benefit. A person whose aim is to take the family to the closest mall on the weekends for window shopping and ice cream will put affordability and mileage before factors like torque, fun to drive aspect and even safety for that matter because people don't have that kind of disposable income to afford better cars, this will encourage manufacturers to cost cut to the level where the quality of the car will be compromised and for the small segment of enthusiasts in India who do have the money to spend, they will be left discouraged if good manufacturers like Skoda/VW etc and/or start compromising their quality by doing JV's with Indian companies like Mahindra to survive. It's a mix of multiple factors like per capita income, high taxes on car etc. I really hope that companies like Skoda VW, Jeep etc don't leave the market. We need them here making good cars for the enthusiasts too as opposed to only two or three companies making trashy cars.

Having better customer service experience and network, cost of maintainace, spare parts etc.also contributes towards good sales. if a company is manufacturing in India then they are at level playing field with all other manufacturers in terms of tax. Higher tax may discourage buyers overall but not specific company's vehicles. People are ok compromising with quality in trade of after sales services which these companies lack, nothing to do with taxes.

Nothing can beat Honda City , But yes Honda elevate is built on the same body on frame platform as City, with high commanding position for a driver. Its 1.5 litres NA engine is also reliable. Hope it helps

It completely depends on what you are looking for.. with a decent drive, I’m getting a mileage of 17 on highways in petrol and in our diesel, mileage is above 22..
