The information on the Pacer X in this video came from the MEXICAN version of the Pacer X (the VAM Pacer X). The Mexican Pacer Xs were the ones with the special 150 net HP version of the 4.6 Liter straight six engine (282 cid), which was NEVER available in the United States and Canada. This video is supposed to be about the original AMC versions of the cars mentioned here, not the overseas ones. The research done for this video was very poor.

This video is so terribly made and edited, so low on quality and full of data errors that the creator should delete it out of dignity. They should remake the video, remove all those pictures of non-AMC cars that have nothing to do, get the data corrected, not mix up models like the Javelin and AMX, to mention just a few issues.

In 1970 my Dad went out to buy a new car . He said he was going to buy a Mustang Mach 1... he came home with a yellow Javelin with a green vinyl top . I was so mad I wouldn't talk to him for 3 days ! But I finally got a ride in the Javelin and I saw what sold him that car . We were going down an on ramp doing about 45 miles per hour and he FLOORED IT ! It SPUN THE TIRES until it shifted into 3rd gear ! It was kinda ugly but it was FAST ! We went to my Grandparents house in it and we were asleep on the interstate except my Mom and woke me up when she floored it . We were doing 105 Mph . Mom had a lead foot . The car was FAST ! PK

A Good Friends Father had a AMC Dealership in "73" in Elgin Illinois, in "74" they just started selling The Bricklen, a neat car but I think it had a Ford engine and other problems! But unfortunately Nixon took the US off the Gold Standard and the economy blew up! AMC stopped the 2% pledge, based on the value of the new cars on the lot! That most dealerships depended on as operating cash! It was an incentive for dealerships to take as many new car models as possible! Forcing a better sale deal at the end of the year! (August) Never owned the faster AMC's but I did buy my ex bosses wife DL Pacer for $500.00 it was the best used car I've ever bought for $500! It had a 253 good on gas and okay power! The only thing I replaced was the rack & pinion which I bought at a junkyard for $50.00. it was a great car! It shined at drive-ins! You could back it in! And lay the back seat down a couple of pillows and blankets leave it running with AC on in Texas, with the FM Radio modulators it had great sound! TMI! The American Motors made good cars! But they didn't? Or couldn't stay up with the Big 3! And the "70's" was AMC's last gasp! RIP......!

69 Plymouth Roadrunner came with 383cu.in. v-8 and 335 H.P. but the 390 Rebel came with 411 rear gears and positraction which made it faster than the R/R. They are reporting here high 1/4 mile times. Real times were in the 11's. weak point were its rear hubs, they should have put beefed up ones.

most of the muscle cars really didn't have to impressive time or handle it was the design with the beginning of horsepower where cars in the 50s 40s were luxury with improved brakes steering air condition cars made life easier not everyone had one that started a after ww2 mustang and Camreo were originally a sport sedan with v 6 late 69 70 was the real horsepower started early 60s aggressive design then the engine design started with the peck horsepower 1970 then gas crunch started cars got smaller again these videos are always fun I've only seen a scrambler once car show

The times where impressive back then, but, you can take the same car they tested back then, fill it up with 87 octane (unless it was factory race motor, you need premium), replace the tires with modern radials and tune the motor to the new fuel you added and the thing will turn 14s into 12s, which still isn't impressive for today, but that's with a factory car. You have yet to modify anything and are getting 4k pounds down the strip in 12 secs

3 minutes into this .... this is terrible. No real research here. Just a bunch of hooey thrown at a screen for making money. You show pictures that aren't amc... you show 401 while ai yaps about a 390. THE MACHINE should never have been listed as number 15 as it was the fastest production car made at the time. Yes a production car!! Yenko and shelby made aftermarket cars . The machine had all production parts ... the difference and only reason not in record books as such is... the production facility in Kenosha did not have room on production line to fit "service performance package " onto vehicle. With that parts group that had to be installed at dealership THE MACHINE would get 1/4 mile in high 10's. No other car could do that from production untill 2000's. It should be number 1 on list. 68 Javelin had 343 in them with " go pack" it would do the 0-60 you mentioned in 8 seconds or less. Not a slow 11. You have SO much wrong with this people will be ignorant after watching it. You will actually steal peoples i.q. points. Do some real research .. get some archived photos if thats all you can get and put together a better video. Maybe try talking to some people that actually owns one or two . Maybe talk to some older race car drivers. 3 minutes in ... ive had enough.

I don't know why but numbers have the fudged somewhere along history. If my stock 74 charger with a 318 can hit 100 before 14 seconds, any car passing the finish line at 14 second at 100mph is slow as hell
@burningblue1254
@burningblue1254 Ай бұрын
I have a 74 Charger Rallye 440 with the torque flite and the optional 3.55 gears. With a performance tune the car ran 15 flat at 92. There is no way your 318 ran 14 at 100. Box stock 14s at 100 mph is SD 455 territory.

This is a terrible video. 14 second quarter miles was very average to below average. 0 to 60 times of 6 seconds is also very average and was very common with just about every stock 60's super car made by everyone. Lots of aftermarket performance parts were available and needed to make the AMC cars somewhat competitive on a drag strip. Leaf spring rear suspension suffered from excessive wheel hop unless traction bars were installed. It was just easier to order healthy Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, and Barracudas. Not to mention specialized cars like the Z-28 Camaro, Boss 302 Mustangs, Hemi Dodge and Plymouths, W-31 and W-30 Olds 442s, 396/375 HP Chevelles, Novas, and Camaros. AMC products were slower, handled poorly, rusted, and depreciated at an alarming rate. Most of those competitive supercars ran quarter mile times in the mid 13 to high 12 second range with very little modifications. AMC's were just not that competitve. As a side note, I was born and raised in Kenosha, Wi. and had direct experience with every single AMC product that was talked about in these videos. 3 of 10 super cars on the streets were AMC products, and the staff engineers knew how to modify their cars and produce very impressive horsepower numbers. However, the guys and gals in Kenosha that knew the performance market rarely bought AMC products. This unfortunately was a sign that the company was in trouble going forward.
@ericchristensen4107
@ericchristensen4107 Ай бұрын
So incorrect from a Kenosha kid. All the car mags of the time raved about AMC’s handling including Rebel,Hornet,AMX,and Javelin. Any of those cars will run the times you state with similar mods.
@Mst-bh9ti
@Mst-bh9ti Ай бұрын
While the times here are often wrong, most muscle cars of the era could not break 14 seconds. Additionally, tests showing ones that did often ran 4:11 or lower rear ends And thus comparatively low top speeds. Exceptions, big block corvettes, Hemi Cuda/Challengers and such.
@jeffreymyers3395
@jeffreymyers3395 Ай бұрын
@@ericchristensen4107 Eric, This Kenosha kid actually worked on, rode in, and drove many AMC supercars that you read about in car magazines. I'm 74 years young and was very familiar with performance cars of the super car era and I was quite capable of making Javelins, AMX's, Hornets, Rambler Scramblers (Rambler Americans with 390 cu. in engines) run somewhat strong- low 13's and high 12's. It took a lot of cubic money to get a AMC super car into the 11's and high 10's. I had a front row seat to those good old days of performance cars.

Stupid video, by an uniformed host. The fastest AMC Drag Car's were the Super Stock AMX's (52 made) The fastest top speed AMC's were the Penske/ Donahue Javelins of Trans Am fame. AMC never made a fast car after 1974, He did not even mention the Randle enterprises 401 Gremlins. All AMC's came with smooth running camshafts (can you say Taxicab) A camshaft change with a set of Headers was worth 50 to 75 Horsepower making the AMC engines competitive with anyone!
